.2992 pilot to tight !

i have a true-flite barrel that i want to fit on a brand new barnard action.even my smalest pilot,.2992)wont enter at both end of the barrel.i know that i have to cut the berrel a bit to remove the starting point of the rifling.how mutch should i cut?
whould solve the problem?

You might try only opening up the very bore with a piloted center drill. Just the orifice. The other thing is you should measure the bore with a pin gauge then order the appropriate bushings. Every barrel is different. Most gunsmiths who do much chambering have an assortment of bushing sizes. For 30 caliber I have bushings from .2970 through .3040 in .0002 increments. Yes, that is about $900.00 worth of bushings. There are several schools of thought. Some folks use bushings and some don't. Some pre drill and bore their chambers letting the reamer follow the pre bored hole.

PT&G, Manson, and Clymer all can make your bushings.
