284 winchester loads

I am new to the 284 winchester and wanting some load data for whitetail hunting loads with 150-162 grain bullets. This is a long action. Hoping to shoot either Sierra gameking
or hornady.

I am hoping with a longer COL that I can get more powder in the case and higher velocities.
Waiting on the rifle to arrive, just trying to get some supplies together. It will be throated for 168-180 VLDs but I don't plan to hunt with those, too much bullet for whitetails I think.

I hunt deer with mine and use the 140 Ballistic tips over H-4350...
Never lost a deer either....

If throated for 180s and a long action, I would load up the 180g Berger Hunting VLDs with H4350/H4831SC and proceed to start my killing. Not many combos out there better than that for all-around whitetail getter in my opinion. Easy to tune, shoots great and kills dead.

Thanks, also is the Norma brass better quality than Winchester? I don't want to turn my necks. It is a no turn chamber.

Winchester brass will get you by just fine for deer hunting ammunition. Norma and Lapua brass are definitely better but at a premium price. Choose your bullets based on Range you plan on using them at. Yes the 180s are hammers but the 160 varieties are great on whitetails as well. Use whatever shoots best in your gun at the ranges you'll be shooting at.

Check your reamer as I believe the base diameter between the cases are different. If you reamer is cut for a Lapua/Norma case, you will work the Winchester brass a bunch. If cut for Winchester brass, your Norma/Lapua brass may not fit.
