284 WINCHESTER IN REM 700 SA

Is anyone shooting the 180 gr. Berger VLD's in a .284 in a Remington short action for F Class? It appears the rounds are going to end up in the 3.2" length. Is this going to be a an issue loading single shot for F Class?
Thanks,

The issue will be removing a loaded round. You will probably need to remove the bolt from the action as the loaded round will not clear the ejection port while still held by the extractor. With some stocks that can be an issue. I had this problem at Perry one year when a cease fire was called for a boat in the impact area. I changed to a long action after that.

As Walt Krafft said you will have to remove your bolt to remove a loaded round. I shoot f class with a short action in 284 and it's not a problem but my stock allows me to remove bolt.

I have an adjustable cheek rest on my stock that will allow me to remove my bolt if necessary. It's unusual to have to remove a loaded round during a match so I really don't think it will be an issue. Thanks for the replies. I have the barrel coming and I had read an article or two about the OAL on the Bergers so I thought I would check with the people that know.

I have a couple of friends that have 284 Sheehane in short actions. They have about 0.050 freebore and shoot 180s at around 2800 with H4350. They shoot amazingly well.

I get around 2900 with RL17 in a SA. Only a 25" barrel so pretty impressive. Not a comp shooter so I understand there are better accuracy powders. The 17 just gets you in the velocity range your looking for. It's roughly a 1/2-3/4" shooter out to where I need it. I don't shoot 180s in it other than when I first built it for curiosity. I strictly shoot the 162s for hunting. Shoot under .5 with the RL17 at 3K fps.
