284 Win. Who is using, pros/cons, feeding?

Like to hear from 284 guys, what can you tell me?

What brass you running, barrel info inc. length and performance? BBL Life?

Accuracy? Ease of loading? Powders? Feeding w/o mods?

Anything you want to share, love to hear it. Seems like it has potential for a 7mm non mag SA round.

Thanks.

I will tell you that a BRUX barrel will flat out shoot 162 grain A-max's in a 32 inch - 9 twist 1.350 barrel.
Super easy to load for a .284 Winchester...
Not a lot of tuning required either..
All I use in any of mine is Winchester brass...
If I have to work over brass it may as well be Winchester.
The last batch of Lapua 6.5x284 brass had a lot of flash holes that needed attention (really bad flashing in half the hole).....
Lots of powders work with the .284 but I always end up burning H-4831 SC with really good success with any of the bullet weights I'm using at the time.............
All mine are single shot action so I don't worry about feeding issues...

I have built a couple of mag fed repeaters in 6.5*284 and the fat base and body taper requires some mods to magazine to work properly. I am about to build both a single shot 284 Shehane and repeater. I think the reduced body taper will work better in mag but still will require bending top of mag out a little to feed properly. Depending on Magazine it is very likely you will have to make some minor "tweaks" to get it right. Usually just bend the tops out a little to allow shell to rise high enough and get picked up by bolt. Once it is sorted they should feed fine.

Not that you want to lug around a 1.35 inch barrel for repeater but you should check out what Preachers rifle can do....I have several Brux's and more on the way.

Second place in F(O) in the Gov. General Prize at the 2010 Canadian Championships was a straight .284. The Ontario shooter uses 180 Bergers in an 8 twist 32 inch Tru-Flite barrel from New Zealand. He is a Canadian distributor for the N.Z. barrel. He has several different powder loads so don´t know exactly which one he was using. Will try to find out.

The other useful info for building repeater on this case is the length. Although designed to go in short action, You cannot seat very long. If you plan on using high BC bullets for hunting I would recommend a Long Action repeater or design your reamer with a little less freebore.
