I'm interested in your experience with fire-forming 7mm WSM from Norma 300WSM cases. I have a Kreigher barrel that is threaded for a Neiska action. It is in 7mm Dakota. Its a 1 in 9. I intend to cut the Neiska threads off & re-thread it for a Rem 700 LA. I want to use the 180 Berger or JLKs. The barrel is only 27" now & I don't want to lose anymore length than necessary. I like the 284, but it won't clean up the Dakota Chamber. And a little more powder capacity than the 284 would be nice. A 7mm WSM will clean up the remaining portion of the Dakota chamber. But I don't particularly care for the short neck on the 7mm WSM. I guess what I want is a 7mm WSM with a longer neck. In the process of necking the 300 to 7mm the case should lengthen a little. When you fire-form it in a 7mm WSM chamber though, wouldn't the case length shrink back? I'm thinking of having a reamer made for a 7mm WSM with a longer neck & trying to "grow" the neck to fit the chamber. I guess I'm trying to figure how much longer it'd be practical to "grow" the neck length? May not be practical at all. I guess I could try shortening a 7mm Rem ultra mag or I could just re-chamber it back to the 7mm Dakota, but I don't think I want that long a case & my Remington bolt face would need to be opened up for the Dakota. I've also heard that Dakota brass isn't the best in the world for consistency. Thanks. M9
