Next year will be time to rebarrel my 6.5 Creedmoor, as good as a 6.5 like that is for 1000 yard and 600 yard is makes me wonder if I'd be better off for the 1000 yard stuff with a 7MM. I was first thinking of getting a magnum bolt faced short action for 7SAUM but then I remembered the 284's .473 case head and that would actually work in my Creedmoor's action - I could get a 7MM cheaper that way because I wouldn't have to buy another action then.
What really has me wondering though is do you run into the same overall length issues with the 284 or Shehane as you do with the 6.5-284? Issues being that you can run it in a short action but you're often times better off in a long action because of bullet loading length.
I'm trying to decide if I'm going to keep this action in a 6.5 CM, go down to a 6SLR or go up to a 284 Shehane and if you guys are running the 284s only in long actions and they're handicapped in short actions it'll help me make my decision. Thanks
