.284 Win COAL 3.302

Hello gents,

Just had a BAT model M/Kreiger 31 1/2" chambered in straight 284 Win. My dummy round just touching the lands is 3.302. Visually it appears there is a lot of bullet outside the case! Does any one else run oal this long? It appears 2/3 of the neck is holding the bullet before the boattail starts.

Thanks

Perfect! Using the sized part of the neck and staying ahead of the shoulder junction is just what you want. Your gunsmith did his job!

I guess leaving more room for powder without compressing as well. I'm loading 180 Berger Hybrids. Loading some now to break in the barrel tomorrow.

I have a Pierce MF / Broughton 5C 30" .284 Win chambered for the 180 Berger hybrid and the distance to my rifling is 3.260 and jump them back for a COAL of 3.248 and have had good success thus far.

I spoke to a reputable gunsmith who says he chambers for the 180 hybrids so the boatail starts right at the neck shoulder junction so with throat wear you can chase the lands.
