284 Win Chambering Problem

PTG bolt with Rem extractor, Lapua brass, PTG 7mm-284 Chamber reamer. Chambers great without the extractor. With the extractor installed I have to force the bolt closed as if the head space was a little short. Beats the crap out of the rim. Also had to slightly relieve the chamfer in the bolt nose next to the extractor so the case could eject. Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Had the same problem with the same setup from Kiff. It works better if you replace the extractor with a factory Remington extractor. It still isn't right, but its much better.

Have you tried a SMALL chamfer on base of the case ? Ive got some old 284 brass which has a much larger bevel . My old cases chambered easier than the new ones , until I duplicated the contour.
I would try just one , it doesnt take much .

The standard face and extractor cut on the Remington blue print works poorly at min spec with some of the 284 brass so we are opening up the face .005 and slightly radius the snap in factory extractor slot . If you follow Ggmac method they work great with the unaltered Remington extractor . I like the mini 16 extractor for the 284 Win and the 280 Ack cartridges . Thanks Dave

What is the Ggmac method? If I get a mini m16 extractor installed will the bolt end up looking like a polished turd? Should I order a new bolt and re head space the barrel?

My bust on Ggmac. Long day at work. I'd rather have the rifle function with unaltered brass. Starting to think I should have gone to 280 or 7WSM.

Will pursue Dave's idea with the extractor. If that doesn't work we'll go the mini M16 extractor route. Thanks for all the advise.

:'(Modified bolt as suggested. Worked great in the shop. Only worked about 1/3 of the time at home and range. I ordered another bolt with a mini M-16 extractor. Quoted 8-10 weeks delivery. I know I'll have to check headspace. Live and learn. PTG makes some great stuff and it's my fault for not asking questions. On the bright side I have an extra one piece long action bolt. Any thoughts on a Wyatt's Outdoor centerfeed box mag and a PTG Canoe bottom?

I was checking stock to day and found some Short BDL extended trigger guards that a Wyatt extended internal box will drop in and fit straight up and down . It adds .110 if I remember right , that with a canoe floor plate would be a real set up. Ill pull them out and make sure the girls get them up on the Web Site .
