284 Win build.

Hi all
This is my first post. To intro, I live in Darwin in the north of Australia, area population of 125k.
I’m setting up a 284 Win (7mm) 26”#3 barrel on a Tikka T3 for medium range hunting. 284 is not popular here, only one other guy in town with 284. Just a few posts on our largest shooting forum. Acc Shooter has a few posts per page, plus other great topics to read, that’s why I became a member. Also shoot 25-06.
Currently looking into cases, reamer spec and dies. Have measured Win brass but not yet Lapua.
Heading towards Win brass to avoid necking up Lapua, even if the Win brass is lesser quality.
As the Lapua brass is about 5 thou larger than Win at the base area, people say to chamber for Laupa then you can use either new brass.
Regarding dies; the std Redding Type S set should be fine for the job. With Win cases, .317”chamber neck and a light neck turn to .313” loaded, the .311” bush should be ideal. Now with the dies, regardless of the brass type the std FL dies will resize Win or Lapua cases to the same diameters, as I understand.
Why then cut a chamber to suit to SAAMI or new case spec, when the die determines the case size. A respected gun writer and builder over here as advised to have the reamer body sized to suit FL resize brass plus 2 ½-3 thou. With the ideal body, neck and throat clearance the plan is to enhanced alignment to the bore. Yes it is only a hunting rifle but I want to put in the extra effort for the build.
Would like to hear from those reloading 284 and people with knowledge of reamers. PS and anyone that wishes to say hi.
Regards
Lawrie

Because the dies will size down the fired case the proper amount to allow for easy chambering.

.284 likes a little room on the neck diameter. I set up my reamers with a .318 neck to allow for about .015 neck clearance on each side. It works for me, with Winchester brass.
