I just got my scope on my 284 and loaded some 180gr berger vld.
out of my 26' 1-9 twist lother walther I am getting and ave. of 2900fps. My load is 52.5gr of Rl-17. br2 primers and win brass. I am getting crattered primers and slight ejector marks. I will bump it down and test it again.

You might want to try some VV N560 if the RL-17 doesn't give you what you want. In my gun with naked Berger 180 VLDs, I have gotten similar velocities and vertical dispersion to RL-17 without the pressure signs and it fills the case better.

I use 54 gr RL-17 with molyed 162 gr A-Maxes to get 2950 fps out of a 22' barrel, and consider that a maximum load. I think you're using a rather hot load - 48-50 gr and 2800 fps is probably better territory to be working in.

These are the first rounds down this bbl, when I bumped it back to 52gr of rl17 I got my ccb at 2930 and the they rest averaged 2950 again. this is on a 26' barrel. I am kinda stumped on why the velocity is going up. I weigh each charge also. After this box of berger 180's is out I will most likely use only the 162 amax, no one had them and no one has them yet. I dont want to shoot moly. When I bumped the load back I notices the ejector makes were no more. But I think I have to much fire pin protrusion, I have no way of checking it. I think its hitting the primer to deep. any thoughts? Davey

Ok so I did some more testing with the 180bergers and playing with seating depth and this is what I got.

this is laying prone in the dirt at 100yds with a slight 1-2mph breeze. I found my load. I am not getting pressure signs any more. Davey

Well that's not gonna work, you better keep working on it.

Well when I switch over to the A-max's I gonna have some work to do to that load also. just need to get some of those things.
