.284 velocities with a 162 to 168gr bullet???

Looking at building a .284 for 1000yd shooting and tactical shooting would like some "Real world" info on loads and speeds that your getting out of a 28" (Or less) barrel with 162s or 168s. Thanks guys!!!

Subtract about 20 fps for a 28" barrel.

Hornady 162 gr bullets
Load testing for the 7mm (284)
100 yard bench rest, 5-shot groups, temp 40/70 degrees, alt 200'.
Rifle: BAT action, 30" Krieger barrel, med palma taper, .277x.284", 1:8.5 twist.

I've been able to get 3085fps from my 26" barrel but the accuracy was about as good as a 12ga shotgun, I'm getting good accuracy (this is a hunting rifle) better than 1/2" with a velocity of 3011fps and I'm pretty sure if I slowed them down a touch more the accuracy would improve. This 284 is on a long action and throated to seat the bullets out a bit longer than the 2.800" mine has a COL of 3.100" Later,

My project 284 with long lead will be done in the next few days. I am going to be trying out Varget and Reloader 17 in a 26" barrel and will let you know the results I get.

Jerry, Thanks for your info. Which brand of brass and primer was used for this data? Very impressive.

I get 2930 fps with 162 A-Maxes and Winchester brass, Federal Match primers, and 54.0 gr Reloder-17 from a 20" barrel. Pressure is less than maximum and the load is well short of being compressed. I could get similar velocities using RL-19, but the loads were compressed.
