284 Shehane/RL 23 Powder

Any reloading data with Berger 180 grs. bullets?
any info is appreciated.
You can use H4831SC as a benchline for RL-23. It's burn rate is nearly identical to H4831SC. If it is slower than H4831SC, as Alliant states, the difference is imperceptible!

I agree with following H 4831 data. Probably can go hotter but watch for warning signs. More speed with less pressure signs is what I've found in the 22-250 Ackley with 80 gr bullets.

My Shehane start out with a .188 fb and I throathed it out some and my C.O.A.L is 3.200

I use the Quick Load program for answers to questions like this. Using your 3.20 COAL and the 180 Berger hybrids (#28407), I show using 55 gr. of RL-23 producing 100% load density at about 53K psi. and 2,755 fps. The Shehane, like the .284 Win, is a 63.8K psi case.

I highly suggest you corroborate this data with other QL users on this forum.

I tried RL-23 in my Shehane with great results during 100 yd. testing. However, during a 20 shot match, it would get erratic and I would start dropping points during the 2nd half of the string. YMMV
