.284 Shehane Chambering Issue

Have friend who is a mechanical engineer and machinist. Has a .284 Shehane barrel that had 1500 rounds through it and he decided to set it back an inch. Same barrel, same reamer. Whereas he was pushing 57.5 gr. of powder through it with his chosen bullet, he now is popping primers at 55 gr. of the same powder and bullets. Bolt closes on his Go-gauge when installed on his action. What is happening?

Probably the the throat was well worn and now it’s pushed back to where it was when it was new.

Thanks for the reply. According to him he has been using the 57.5gr. load since day one. Maybe it will shoot in after next weeks match...
