284 shehane build

right gentlemen i am now about to have a new rifle built in .284 shehane , the problem i have come across is no lapua .284 brass only 6.5-284 so i guess ill have to neck this up.

Thats where my problems start as i have necked down but never up . I have spoke to bill sheahane about normal wilson dies for this calibe so that is no problem, but where i am getting confused is what dies do i need for the necking up. Any body got any imput please thanks spud

Get the new Sinclair expander die that allows the 7mm expander to float. Make sure you expand up in a sturdy press using a good lube as you can split necks. Al Warner likes to anneal (even new Lapua brass) before he expands up to 7mm.

Good luck with your 284 Shehane.

thanks Jim i dont suppose you have a link to the exact expander die you mean so that i order the right one

thanks again

Here is the Sinclair Expander Die. If you get the stainless steel mandrels, spin them in an electric drill and polish the expansion surface with some 400-600 grit crocus cloth and a little Kroil or light gun oil. I use the carbide mandrels for both expansion and neck turning.

could i also use a 7mm k&m one? , if i can find one that is

when it come to having shot the cases 4or5 times in the future i use a wilson casee trimmer , as the case have been blown out will i need t get a .284 wilson case holder and get it chambered or is there another way please ?

thanks mark

I dont see a need to aneal the new Lapua brass as it has already been done. waste of time, i would think! Lee

Skeet:

I would have thought so as well. But when you split the neck on a $1 + case, it gets my attention. I also pay close attention to what Al Warner says. Besides, it takes me about 15 minutes to anneal 100 cases, so no big deal for me.
