284 shehane barrel twist?

I have a 284 bartlein barrel blank with a 1:8.5 twist. will this twist work for a 284 shehane using 180 hybrids. Does anyone have sugestions for a gunsmith that would chamber the 284 shehane? Your input is greatly appreciated.

Greg Tannel of gre-tan rifles is a great guy to work with and fast turn around. he may have the reamer you are wanting to chamber for. here is his ph #970-878-5421

Thanks to all for your help. I picked the barrel up awhile ago, but after reading more I was not sure if I picked up too fast a twist. I now have the parts for a complete build and needed a smith. Thanks for the heads up, I will give Mr. Tannel a call .

A 1:9 twist is the "standard" for 180 grain bullets.....your 8.5 twist should work great.

I agree. I have one barrel with a 1:9 the other with a 1:8.7. I am at 500ft elevation with temperature swings from 25-107 degrees F, and relatively high humidity. I have had zero issues with either.

As mentioned by others, GT is a great smith. I love the work done by Al Warner. If you want Al to chamber your Shehane, I will send him my reamer (.313 neck so must turn) for your chambering. It is set up for the 180 Hybrid. Reamers, like bullet making dies, have a personality of their own -- mine is a great reamer. Just let me know.
