284 Norma or 284 Shehane? I have 500 of 284 Norma brass?

I have a long action Nesika 308 bolt face and want to have a 284 built. I need help choosing which caliber. I don’t want to use Lapua Brass because of donuts. I was thinking about the straight 284 with 180 hybrid bullets and then thought about the Shehane with the 180 and 184 Berger. Any advice
Thanks Jason

Also will be using a Bartlin 32” Speed taper or HV 1-9 maybe 1-8 for 180 and 184 Berger hybrids. Shoot I try a 1-8.7 or a 1-8.5 twist instead? Also what free bore and neck thickness? I want a no turn neck with Norma brass. Thinking of a 225 free bore and a 320 neck diameter. I read Jerry Teriney article about having enough clearance around the chamber. He said .002 on each side of the neck. Jerry was a wealth of gun info and always friendly at the range, also a great shooter. RIP Jerry.

Everyone ive talked to says the shehane aint work the extra effort vs a 284.

Fire form brass during a 600yrd match and it's amazingly accurate...You can run the lower velocity nodes at a lower pressure than a straight 284....you can run the higher velocity nodes that you can't reach with a straight 284...both are plenty accurate enough, but for me the Shehane has always been better, maybe it's because that is what I started with,,I have both...like everything else if you stomp the piss out of it both will ruin primer pockets asap.

Going Shehane or 7 Walker gets you higher velocity or gets you the same velocity at lower pressures and longer brass life. Loose primer pockets due to pressure is the boogeyman of the 284 case.

If you plan to shoot the 184 Hybrid, you need to consider that the shank is 30 thou longer. My new reamer is thus a 250 freebore.

Can’t talk to the Norma brass. I stick to Lapua.

I shoot a Shehane and if iI had to do it all over again, I'd still be shooting the Shehane for the reasons @Rope2horns stated.
I've shot a bunch of 197-199 matches @1K while fireforming. The "X" count was lower that formed brass, but still competitive.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

Thanks for all the input. It sure looks like a toss up. I have decided to stick with a straight 284. I have another friend shooting a 284 and figured it would probably be easier to stick with a caliber that he has. Will be in the process of ordering a barrel and dies soon.
