.284 LA Savage build

I decided to make my first post about the recent build I'm working on

I have a long-action Savage and 7mm 32" Shilen barrel

my smith has .320 neck reamer, is it too big for my unturned Winchester brass?
I only have RCBS full-length die and loaded rounds come out .313 or so with 180 VLD/162 A-max or 168 SMK

Should I look for a different reamer for my match rifle?
ps. the throat I'm looking for is around .220

I've heard that some prefer tighter neck for .284 Win, but not too tight.

Would .002 per side be sufficient for good accuracy?

I run a 0.313 chamber neck with a 0.309 or 0.310 inch loaded round neck so total clearance of 0.003 to 0.004 thousandths.

Thats a lot of slop, and your brass will wear out sooner...
.004 is about right on a new reamer....

Would .317 suffice?

I doubt that I will be using Lapua as I have Winchester brass and it loads at about .313

How long does PTG take to make the reamer? Which is better solid pilot or floating?

Same as Tony, I run .313 neck and .309 loaded round. That is Lapua brass with turned necks. My freebore is .220. Going over .004 diametral clearance will not hurt accuracy but, as Preacher noted, too much will fatigue the brass. You might check the neck wall thickness consistency on your Winchester brass. Some lots are very good, others not as much.

Only use a floating pilot. You do not want a reamer pilot spinning around in your barrel just forward of the throat.
