.280AI question

Which brass do you use with your 280ai, would you cut the chamber for the newer 280 or for P.O. Ackleys original chamber? Thanks

When i finally get around to building a 280AI, i'll use Peterson.

Got some Peterson for my 280 Rem. Really like it so far.

I've used Nolser in 280AI. I have some Peterson but so far not as accurate Nosler. My 280AI SAAMI spec. I have another 280AI that was build before spec and I fire form using 280 brass for that one. Spec has Lilja barrel and non spec Kreiger and both pretty accurate.

As to which one I would do spec 280AI.

Yep, Norma is some pretty damn good brass. I have had very good luck with it. They make the brass for Weatherby too. I have three 280AI rifles, all are SAAMI.

I use Lapua 30-06 brass fireformed into .280 AI,,,they are ~.050" short overall but function and shoot perfectly,,,and the quality of Lapua brass is un-matched by any other mfg,,,,,just jam the bullet on first fireing/fireforming and then load as needed after that,,,Roger
PS,,,you can fire form with a bullet and .280 powder charge or with 27gr of Universal Clays and a 1/4 square of toilet paper rolled up like a cigarette and tamped down on the powder,,NO BULLET !!!!!!!!!,,,this is much simpler than using cream-0-wheat or co-co puffs,,,no mess or gummy residue in the ctg case or bbl of your rifle,,,,

Norma does not make nosler brass, havent in many years. They make their own now and its finally usable.
Dusty's right, they bought out Silver State Armory not long before they released the 26, 28 and 30 line of Cartridges i dont think it was an anomaly with the timing.

I also use the Lapua '06, hard to kill the brass with heavy loads shooting 175's LRAB at 2900+, 27" bbl. I fire form with 14.6g of bullseye and cream of wheat, then go shoot tiny clover leafs, just check the brass with a bent paper clip to make sure none of the cream of wheat had clumped up against the inside of the 40* shoulder angle

Just a smooch of powder compared to my 7 Mags with the same bullet.

I bought a good amount when it first appeared ( hunting rifle). I first chambered the rifle, a Mauser in 7x57 as a wildcat and fire formed 280's. A year later the SAAMI specs came out, so I got a reamer and recut. It wasn't that much different, but allowed factory brass to chamber. Ran the rifle on Reloader 22. Cases lasted well. I sold the rifle a while ago and passed on the remaining brass - some still new to a club member. No issues with the brass - but only used for hunting.

My 280 AI is a Light weight Hunting Rifle. I use Norma 280 Brass. When this brass is worn out or lost in the feild I will switch to Lapua 06 Brass. Running IMR 7828 SSC with a 162 ELD.
