I do not know the particular bullet but I will say the batch I had shot very well for factory ammunition in the rifle I had at the time

He just sent me a picture of the back of the box. Shows bullet velocity/energy and drop. Pretty un-impressive for "extended range" ammo. Basically a flatbase core lokt type bullet. BC roughly .445. Muzzle velocity 2820. Kinda expected something comparable to Superformance numbers. Not what he's looking for. He wants it for elk at longer ranges. Still 47.50 per box. It's about all he can find right now.

Extended range ammo in the 280 to me is Alliant PP4000, topped with a 150gr Nosler ABLR.

At 2,932 fps muzzle velocity, and G7 BC of 0.275, it gets downrange.
Also helping is expansion velocity of 1,300 fps vs 1,800 for the Corelokt.

I agree. For us hand loaders, the sky's the limit, especially if components are on hand. He isn't a reloader. 47.50 is ridiculous for a 20 rd box of ammo. Maybe it's fairly normal today but not normal to me.

As far as factory ammo is concerned, Remington would be my last pick, especially for "extended range".
1) the velocities from Remington aren't what i'm looking for.
2) observed bullet performance is lack luster. I've seen firsthand multiple deer, shot multiple times in the chest cavity before they'd go down. (We are talking 5-6 rounds)

When it takes multiple rounds from a 30-06 at 70 yards, vs the 1 Nosler Ballistic Tip, or Berger VLD from my 257 Roberts, something is wrong!

If i were to use factory ammo, Hornady, Federal, Nosler would be my first picks.

Right now those wanting factory ammo don't have that choice. It's what you can find Basically. He found a couple cases, that's why he asked about it. I understand his concern. Not being a reloader, he's at the mercy of the companies and what he can find.
