280 AI loads

Hey guys wondering if you have any 280AI loads and how's the performance of them.
I picked up a Kimber Hunter 24" barrel. Light weight rifle.
I have a chamber issue with it sending it back to Kimber for inspection.
It leaves a circular scratch all the way around my brass about .500" from the base and it is hard to extract.
Loads i tried: i worked up to 61.5 gr RL26
Fed 215M
Nosler brass = 1 1/4" at 200 yards
162 ELD-X
2,950 FPS

RL17 worked up to 56.0 gr
CCI BR2
Nosler brass = 1 1/4" at 200 yards
162 ELD-X
2,950 FPS

Brass measures .269 at the 200 mark. The 280 AI SAAMI spec is 4710 at the 200 mark so .269 should not be hard to extract right? Can anyone give me a quick load PSI on the loads i listed ?

I don't know about the quick loads, but no, it should not be hard to extract {unless I am not reading you right}. I have a Mountain Ascent and had the same problem, a galled spot in the chamber. Poor lube and advancing the reamer too fast will do it. I also have a lathe, so I just set it back and rechambered it myself. I worked up some pretty accurate loads, will post later when I have time to dig them up.

Sounds like good loads to me. My Cooper 280AI also has a 24” barrel. I’m using H4831SC with 168 Berger Classic Hunters for 2900 fps. Picked up 8 lbs of R26, May give it a try.

Running the 180 gr Berger VLD at 0.011 off with 57.0 gr. of IMR-7828ssc in a 30" Benchmark BBL 1-9 twist - Savage Model 12 Target Action.
2900 something fps - shot small groups. - my chamber is throated for 180's - Nosler Brass, Fed 210M

Running 59.8gr of ADI2217 (H1000 burn rate). Gives 2850fps with 180gr VLD (jam 10 thou) out of a 32" 8.5 twist Bartlein barrel. Produces a good waterline at 800 metres. Going to try ADI2209 (H4350) when I'm home in a few weeks time. I suspect this powder may produce better results going off the results of 284 and 7SAUM shooters using it.

I had better luck with RL23 than RL26 in 3-280AI
With what weight bullets?
I find myself interested again in this case. I had a reamer done in 280AI with 30/06 chamber length. I will use Lapua 06 brass. Both my target actions have 2.2" eject port, and neither allow ejection. I found out a while ago my SS Remington 700 will eject the empty case. New option for a hunting gun!

140's and 162's. The FPS was identical I just could not get rid of a little bit of a flyer no matter what I did with RL26, all was good with RL23

my Cooper 280ai loves 150gr Barnes’s ttsx and n-165 at 3000fps. My fclass gun likes the 180eld-m with n165. Tinny little groups way out ther. 2840fps.

Cant hurt. Would like to check out the 180 eld m or berger 184 hybrid

At the moment I am running the Berger 184gr hybrid at 2900fps out of a 32 Brux, 4 groove 8.5 twist...56gr of RL23 gets me that speed with zero pressure signs. I've just run this load with promising results at 1000 yards in switchy conditions. 55gr gets it down to around 2815-2820fps, I think this load is better for the 'shorts'. In my previous barrel, a 32" Bartlein 5R 8.5 twist, similar loads produced good results with the Berger 180gr VLD and likewise the 168gr VLD - both jammed. I'm jumping the Hybrid around 40 thou but it also shows good accuracy at other intervals.

I've got a .280 AI with 22", 1-9 Brux on my hunting rifle. All of these are with RL26 and CCI BR2's and have shot really well in my gun.

162 ELDx, 60.9 gr RL26, .055" jump at 2950fps

160 Accubond, 61.5 gr RL26, .020" jump at 3000fps

165 Sierra TGK, 60.2 gr RL26, .020" jump at 2900 fps

168 VLD, 60.5 gr RL26, kissing the lands, at 2875 fps.
