Jim, Nosler makes?/sells 280AI brass. I've used their 26 and 28 Noslers brass and found it to be very good. What's your take? Good substitute for Lapua? Yes, I know, it's pricey.

My experience with Norma or Nosler brass has always been excellent quality, just a bit softer than Lapua. Measuring it out has always been good, but the primers will get loose on you a little quick. For a hunting rifle, especially if your not hammering on it the Nosler will shoot excellent. It measures about .312" across the neck. My reamer is a .316 neck.

Knocked my elk down this year at 325 yards ,went down and did not wiggle with Barnes 145 Lrx using 4831 at 3163 fps. Flat and accurate . 700 action with Pacnor tube MPi stock Swarovski scope. Great all-around cartridge for my use. I have always used Nosler brass with no issues

i shoot 140 gr nosler and it does the job.59.5 /4350,0.10 from lands,3,225 fps.it smokes the deer.lung shoot them or you don;t have any meat on shoulder shot.

I'm running one in F-open. 32 Bartlein barrel, 8.5 twist. Have extensively tried ADI2217 (H1000), ADI2213sc (H4831) and 2209 (H4350). 2217 and 2213sc are able to drive 180gr Bergers at a comfortable 2850fps without pushing the brass too hard - I'm on 10 reloads using Norma brass. H4350 provides the best accuracy in my rifle however, with tight vertical. The 40fps drop is completely negated by the improvement in accuracy. I like the long neck of the case as it gives plenty of seating depth flexibility and it's much better on brass than the 284. I've shot a 284 previously and I'm getting better results with the 280AI.

Yes it was a hunting rifle with H4350 it shot very well at 100yds 81/2 twist with 180 hybrid.

I ran a pressure test with 168s today. Hit 3100 in 25" with H4350. That case will hold some pressure! That was way too hot, but 3050 was fine. I didnt expect that.

I bought a 280AI Kimber M84 Hunter in April.
Since then I bought:
280AI reamer
7mm throater
Hornady dies and bushing
Redding die set
Lee Collet neck die set
Lee FL die set
Lee FL die set
Redding body die
Nosler brass
7mm 9" SS Bartlein 27" finish 4# 3oz
7mm 9" SS Bartlein 27" finish 3# 12oz fluted

The only thing I have done yet is
1) Make a dummy round and measure 0.310" neck.
2) Put two Lee FL dies in the lathe and hone out necks from 0.298" to 0.308" and 0.312".
3) The Redding body die is 0.320" neck.

What would the best reamer to spec out for free bore, and a no turn neck diameter? for using Nosler Brass, to handle 160-180 class bullets

If I were to order a custom 280AI reamer and wanting a tight but no turn neck, it would be 0.312" neck.

My new, cheap, ready, PTG off the shelf 280AI reamer measures with calipers at 0.318".

Custom reamers can take 6 months. I have to build rifles in September to hunt in October.

I can't deal with anything that takes more than one month delivery.

PTG can build bolts in a month. Schmidt and Bender cannot. Krieger can not. Bartlein can not. McMillan cannot. Manson cannot. PTG has taken 6 months for a custom reamer.

Has a lot to do with whether you'll be reloading or not.
280 and 280AI are capable cartridges. Both have factory ammo available, as well as abundant dies. However, if you are going for a 7mm, why not go all the way?
Have you looked into the 7LRM? I've been shooting quite a bit of it, and really like the cartridge. Were I going to choose a watered down 7mm, I'd do a 284win or 7-08 so I could stick with a short action.
