280 Ackley Improved reamer

I am building a 280 Ackley Improved and have a reamer question.
I plan on using Berger 180gr VLD bullets. OAL will be quite long.
Do I order a regular 280 AI reamer and a throating reamer or can I order a 280 AI with a longer throat cut?

I would think that a reamer with the longer throat would be your best bet, 1 less thing to worry about...

You can go either way, a no throat chamber reamer and use a throater reamer to set the throat depth. Or talk to the reamer maker and send him a couple of dummy cartridges with the bullet seated where you want them.
He will grind the reamer to fit.
Make sure the long cartridge will feed through your rifle.

If you are going to use lapua 30-06 cases tell hime you are reforming and kiff will cut the neck to the length of the reformed brass.

It is probably just me, but I have done two 6.5 x .284 chambers and used a throating reamer to set the long throat. It's easy to use, but by the time I did the 2nd one, I had a Hawkeye borescope. I started throating in the lathe, went .040" and looked with the Hawkeye. I had circular tool marks where the throater cut. The neck and throat cut with the chamber reamer were beautiful. I took the barrel out of the lathe and did .040" more turning by hand so I could feel. Now I had .080" of scored throat. I am probably doing something wrong, but I drew 2 conclusions. 1. the first chamber I did almost certainly has the same scoring, (I haven't looked yet, my nephew lives about 250 miles away), and 2. From now on I'm going to order any special throat ground into the reamer.

Bottom line, I was happy with the throating reamer until I saw what it was doing. Maybe I'm over-reacting, but no more throating reamers for me. I'm not good enough to make them work.

Why not just assemble a dummy round and send it to Dave Kiff at PT&G and have a reamer made for that round.
