280 Ackley Improved loads

I am looking for some pet loads for 280 Ack Imp for 120 -160 gr bullets. Thank for your help.

I have all above along with R22,R19,H4350,H4831 but looking for mostly 130 gr,140gr &150gr Loads that shoot in one little hole.

Another vote for RL23 worked great with Fed 215 and 140 - 162 in 3 -280AI I loaded for.

HA HA.. loads dont shoot in one hole but the load is a big part of it… 4831 SC and 160 gr bullet are a match in my rifle… its easy to get a 280AI to shoot good

Fixing to start load development for mine. With a Berger 7mm 150gr Classic Hunter bullet. And VV N550 and N560 powder . Mite try Berger 7mm 168gr Classic Hunter bullets also. Out of a 280AI 1@8 twist 26-inch barrel.

That's a good group. Been wanting to try MagPro powder in mine. Guy give me half box of Berger 7mm VLD 180 gr to try in my gun. My wife bought me a box of factory ammo to try in it. Federal 280Al 168gr Classic Hunter ammo.

i was using the old standard H4831SC when i first built mine. then after looking though this web site someone suggested IMR7828SSC. and then another guy did, then another. So.. i gave it a whirl and i will be dammed if it didnt reduce the group size by half of what i was getting with H4831SC. Point being... Need to try some different powders.

Slower just a tad then 4831sc but a dash faster then H1000 and equal to RL22..

Only testing will determine that. My 280 load in your rifle may not work

Staball 6.5 works well with 140 class bullets, I used 4000MR with 160s, as well as the RLs in the 20s. 22 works well with heavier bullets, 23 with mid and heavy, I've heard 26 works but I don't use mine on it.

Its one of the easier cartridges to find accurate loads for. Try any of the above and pull the trigger to find out the results.

I carried a 280 AI all over NA and Canada for almost 20 years deer hunting.
140g Nosler Ballistic tip.
Cci br primer
64g of H4831.
Nothing within 500 yards was safe.

The lightest bullet never shot was a 168SMK when i first barreled the rifle for sight in. Staball 6.5 was super accurate. I’ve shot nothing but 180s since then with 7828.
