.280 Ackley 150gr & Vhitavouri N560 load data

Hey guys,

Looking for load data for the above, if anybody has any experience. Due to the serious shortage of Sierra's 160gr TMK (which i have been using to hunt deer with very successfully) and Hornady 162gr projectiles here in New Zealand i picked up a box of Sierra 150gr Gamechangers which are more plentiful.

Can we please keep the thread to discussing load data. Im not interested in hearing how N560 isn't temp stable and H4350 is better...the powder situation down here is dire. I work for the largest gun store in NZ and its taken us 6 months to get our stock of powder. Within half an hour of it arriving in the store, we were all sold out of our stock of ADI 2209 (H4350) and alot of other powder suitable for the .280 Ackley. I bought 2kgs of N560 to try with 160gr, but i also see it works well with the 150gr weight as well.

Thanking you in advance for your recommendations.

Alas, closest info i'm finding in book form & Vithavuori is the 7X64.
If you give me about an hour, i can see about running through Quickload.

Ok, My version of Quickload does not have the 150gr Tipped GameKing.
I have to use the 150gr SPBT #1913.
COAL 3.330"
Barrel Length 24"
65,000psi Max.
Vithavuori N560

63.0gr nets 98.3% case fill.
53,078psi
2,974fps
96.41% propellant burnt.
24.3% efficiency.

66.5gr nets 103.8% case fill.
63,054psi.
3,152fps
98.37% propellant burnt.
25.9% efficiency.

For 85% case fill, which is as low as I'd go with the case volume you have in the 280AI.
55.0gr. for 85.8% case fill.
35,086psi
2,571fps
89.36% propellant burnt
20.8% efficiency.

Hope this helps!
As always, start low, and work up. But not too low. ;)

Std7mag, very much appreciated for the Quickload data.

Those 150gr Tipped Gamekings measure 1.402 inches, BC is .546. COAL is spot on for my magazine on my Kimber Hunter.

Rifle was shooting 160gr Sierra TMK's but supplier are not expecting any in for months, hence choosing N560 and i bought 2kgs.

Efficiency in your data is not overly impressive. Just deciding if i should be considering another Vhitavouri powder thats more efficient?

Regards,

Michael

This is from Nosler forum on 280 Rem QL with 150gr and has powder your using. That be good place to start.

They may help you little over there.

I got good results with N560 in my 280AI.I started pretty low because at the time, all I had for primers was Winchester large rifle magnum.I got the best accuracy with the 160 grain TMK,but they're basically gone nowadays.I was getting good velocity using 560,mid 29's.IMR7828 gave the best accuracy with the 160 grain tipped Matchkings. My Shilen barrelled rifle turned in a 5 shot group that measured .194 inches at 100 yards, but the velocity wasn't as good as N560.
