28 Nosler on Big Game

What is everyone's opinion regarding taking big game with a 28 nosler pumping 195 berger EOL at 3100+ fps? I'm talking about things like moose and bear. At 3100 fps, which as stated by others in another thread is achievable, this combo would have almost 4200 ft/lb energy at the muzzle and maintain that energy better than a 300 win mag pushing 210 berger vlds @ 2925 fps which is a load i have already worked up. At 1000 yards this combo would still be packing about 1650 ft/lb.

Obviously shot placement is key in any case. Personally i think this combo would be sufficient for moose and bear but i have never taken one of these animals so i was looking for some insight from someone who has.

Would the 28 Nosler be enough gun for moose/bear or should one just go with the 300 win mag?

Its more than enough gun. Although I am still partial to a 338 rum for big game at long range. I am building 2 28 noslers at the moment that will be elk rifles. I know over at long range hunting there is more info on it.

7mm Rem Mag is more than enough gun for moose and bear. So there is no questioning the adequacy of the 28 Nosler.

Remember that big cases like the 28 Nosler is nothing new. Long before the 28 Nosler, there were cartridges that equaled or bested its power, such as the 7mm Dakota, 7mm Ultra Mag, 7mm Weatherby, 7mm STW, and a handful of other large 7mm wildcats. All of those cartridges are and have always been extremely effective on large game animals, and they have been so since long before the introduction of heavy 7mm hunting bullets (180gr+). So any hunting reviews you read on rifles with those tried and true chamberings will be completely relevant to what you can expect from the 28 Nosler.
