28 nosler load

We got lucky and scored a couple jugs of H1000, and I believe a pound of Retumbo. We're about to start load work-up for two 28's (Brownings)

I already tried some first groups with one of them with very conservative charge of H1000 and was very happy.

These were the first shots through this rifle, first sight-in target at 50 yds. Other two at 100. I was doing a lot of cleaning and shooting for break-in, and didn't see a dramatic change of impact - either from cleaning or heat. This was new ADG Brass and some old Speer bullets that I had laying around. Next bullets are gonna be Hornady 162 Gr. ELD-X jd

I have enough H1000 left to load about 12-13 more rounds. Need to find an alternative powder.

Well, the 50BMG is one of the frequently listed ones. I've got some old (ancient) 570 and 870 both Hodgdon, that I'm tempted to try, but if I found a great load, I wouldn't be able to get more.

With these rifles, I don't want to waste much time or components -- or barrel life, finding a good load. jd

I have loads worked up with other powders utilizing 175 grain bullets. With 175 grain bullets, the two upper nodes i found were around 3110-3117 and 3170-3180.
My accuracy load is 3195fps with 175gr Elite Hunters in a 26". Reloder 33 and BR2 or 9 1/2M primers.

They like a lot of jump... .095" !

I'm at about 100% case fill so it has been very stable. Tested in -5° F.

I have about 400 rounds so far and hardly any firecracking and .003" throat erosion since new.

I have been using it in mine with Berger 195s. 2950fps with 83gr in ADG brass has been the sweet spot.

It doesnt group as good as N570 or RL33 but ES has stayed below 15 from 40-100degF

Looks like most of you guys are using heavier bullets than us. For better or worse, we're gonna be using 162 gr. Hornady ELD-X at least for now. Maybe for good. We've got I think five hundred of them. I'm thinking they're gonna be great out to 500 or so. And frankly, my friends don't have much interest in more range than that.

I'll say that I like the looks and feel of these Browning rifles. I'm helping them get scoped up, and teaching them to load their own ammo for them. And having fun doing it. I'm having the fun, without spending my own money. jd

With reloader 33 I was very close to what you are getting. I am glad you found yours to be very temp stable. Unfortunately I didn’t and had switched because of it.

A friend had me develop a 28 Nosler 175gr load for his Fierce.
H1000 just worked better then Retumbo and R33 in his rifle. 3 shots cold in 1-1/2" @300yds.
After months of searching local shelves, he finally paid just under $300 for 3 pounds, shipped.
Yes, ouch. But, he was leaving on a $15,000 Elk and Sheep hunt, and he has the ammo he wanted.
(I do have trouble expressing much sympathy for his expensive powder purchase).

Finally found a pound of 7828ssc and some 168 grain Bergers. That's all I could find. Ready to start a load workup. 46and22 suggested .095 jump. Is that pretty much in the ballpark? I hate to ask but with the scarcity of components, I don’t want to waste too much time and money.
Thanks for the help.
Dan

R33 as mentioned, US869, IMR8133 and some of the VV powders should allow you to find a load. Might not be as temp stabile as H1000 or Retumbo but will get you some ammo for time being.

Good Luck

16# WC-867 just sold on GB for 106.00+55.00 shipping. 50bmg pull down said to load very similar to H1000. Didn't see your post in time.
