28 nosler 145 gr bullets

Hi I have a 28 nosler that I usually use 180’s in. But have several boxes of 145 Barnes lrx. I was wondering if anyone is loading them or a bullet around the same weight in a 28. If so what powder was working the best and what kinda velocity it was getting thanks.

Not a 28 Nosler but I loaded 145 and 150 Barnes in my old 7 STW. I ran them at 3400 fps or so with IMR7828sc. I needed H1000 when I went to heavier bullets but the 7828 worked like a dream with the lighter bullets. The case capacities are the same so it should be a good place to start.

I load 7828 with a fed 215 in my 27" Pac Nor three groove, short freebore, 11 twist 7 STW, 3600 fps with the 140g Nosler C/T bullets. Deer flop, near and far.

I would jump the Barnes .050 and find the right powder charge, then tweek the seating depth. You may not have to adjust the seating depth as we did on the 7 mag and 6.5x55 with the LRX bullets, easy to tune bullets in my experience.

7828 will be a hands down winner, save the 26 for heavier bullets.

Well didn’t have enough 7828 as I thought I did. So I ended up trying retumbo. The gun really likes these bullets. Shot 3 into a small hole right around 3500 FPS. Think I am gonna give them a try this year
