277 SIG Fury

FURY is exactly what the Army wanted for penetrating Body Armor. Neither the 7.62x51 or the 5.56 can penetrate and the FURY is not necessarily going "replace" anything. It serves a new purpose. The Army provided the projectile and said have at it boys. Whether anyone can make a firearm or a gun that will hold up to 80k psi is another story. Since it's SAAMI approved now it's not going anywhere. I'll take mine in 24" please, oh and along with two cases of Ammo.
Most modern bolt actions can contain well over 100K psi, the brass sure can't though.

Just reading the SAAMI print and it left me thinking they were concerned regarding high pressure of 80k on a regular Rifle. I don't know about machine guns or battle rifle chambers enough to speculate. The new two piece Cases are more withstanding to pressure than anything in an all brass design. 80K plus shouldn't be a problem for the Case. But don't try it at home kids. Personally I don't have an interest in the Cross, only the FURY!!! FURY!!! say it out loud, oh sounds so good....

Just for a little consideration:

Why would Bartlein invest so much time and money into a new type of barrel steel which is supposed to withstand wear?

Why wouldn't the military resort to making chrome lined barrels again? Or stellite liners?

To the best of my knowledge, all current battle rifle and MG barrels are chrome lined. Perhaps Bartlein is looking at the sporting market for this type of cartridge.

My speculation on that is elr cartridges. Lots of powder(velocity) and percision for first round impacts.

What kind of primer does an 80k psi cartridge take? Certainly not a cci400 ha ha

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the 277 Fury cartridge. I understand that the military criteria dictated the design of the cartridge, but looking at it from a sporting rifle perspective there are a lot of implications. If a ammo maker could put a steel head on a .30-06 case & produce ammo to run at 80K with the right powder, wouldn't it then perform like a .300 WM?

It's been done years ago. You could get steel casehead with brass threaded tubes in H&H sized head or Standard sized. Both with threaded "tubes" to form into whatever cartridge you needed
