270W Ackley improved. .270 fans, come on in.

Many years ago, I rechambered a 270 to 270 Ackley. The standard 270 was able to get about 2950 with 150's (H4831). Any more and primer pockets got loose. The AI was good for just over 3000 with the same bullet. I rechambered to 270 Gibbs ( similar to the AI but with the shoulder blown forward quite a bit) and it would push 3100. I set it back and rechambered for the 270 Weatherby (with a shorter than standard throat) and got over 3200. FWIW. WH

Recently put together a 270-08 AI…have to get back around to playing with it. Lost interest after the primed brass I got a deal on provided some misfires…dang it.

I chambered up a McGowen barrel that they sent me with the wrong contour (that guy is gone now, thankfully), so I recontoured it on the mill with an end mill and a dividing head....as I hate contouring barrels and thought this might suck less...it didn't, but it turned out "interesting ", cosmetically....its a pushfeed M70...haven't shot it much, but need to do some more work with it and get it dialed. Love the Ackleys though...as they just look "right".☺️

My first centerfire rifle was a .270, model 70 ranger. It has always shot very well. At this point I would guess I have about 3000 rounds through it. It still shoots great for an budget hunting rifle. I have thought about putting a new barrel on it, if I were to do that, it would be a 270AI.
