270 Win load with 130 hornady SST

I just recently picked a Kimber Hunter 270 Win and I have a load with 130 grain NP/55 grains IMR 4350/3.20 overall length with almost 3100 FPS and 1/2-3/4 inch at group @100 yards. I just recently purchased Hornady 130 SST and from what I have been reading looks like H4831/60 Grains should be the ticket??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

H4831 and 130 gr bullets has been the time honored classic recipe in the 270 since the days of Jack O'Connor. I think he called for 62 grains originally but that was with the original surplus 4831. The "new" stuff was slightly hotter so he backed off to 60 grains max with 130's.

Dump in 58 grs of 4831 and have some fun. Just my two cents Tommy Mc

Congratulations, you have a premier hunting cartridge - one of the all-time greats!

Both IMR 4350 and 4831 work very well with 130 grain bullets in my experience. When I shot the 270 Win, many, many years ago, I preferred 4350. The flat shooting 130 Sierra BT Spitzer was my bullet of choice - very accurate and flat shooting - an outstanding long range white tail bullet.

Could well be. Since you seem to checking your reloading manual, for loads, follow it's advise and begin with the start load and work up a accurate load, in YOUR rifle, with the combination you choose.

I like 53.5 gr. of h4350 behind a 130 gr Sierra gameking. Good accuracy and instant kills at 200 yds. I dont have any longer shots on my property. I seat my bullet about 10 to 20 tho. off lands

Just wanted to say thank for the intel from everyone and i will put the results out when i come up with a load that i am happy with ....

54.0gr of H4350 and your choice of 130 and you should have a half inch or better shooter. That load has worked extremely well for me in multiple .270s. Velocities will be in the 3050fps range.
Unfortunately i don't have any H4350 all i have is H4831 and IMR4350

If memory serves, the very first "Pet Loads" article by Ken Waters dealt with the great 270.

Slightly off topic, I have loaded IMR4350 with Hornady 110 HP's. Pretty tough on prairie dogs. Shoots to the same POI/POA as my 130 NP loads.

My Winchester likes 60 grains of H4831under the Interlocks. It is 1/2 moa and 3038 fps.
If you don't mind me asking what is your COL? I have made up some 130 SST with 55 Grains of IMR 4350 @3.25 COL. I attempted to load that you recommended and it would appear that it might be compressed so that is reason i ask i really don't want to damage my Kimber or myself. Thanks

so i went out and used IMR 4350 and using the exact load for my 130/NP i shot 1 in higher with 3/4 in group @100 Yards. I can live with that... Thanks
You might try adjusting half a grain higher and lower and see if it tightens up any. That 4350 load has always worked well for me.

3.219. Compression is no big deal.

H-4831 has always been the more accurate powder compared to other powders.
If the load seems very compressed, just dump the powder slowly into the funnel and try to make it swirl. That always works for me. But if the powder is only slightly compressed and it's not affecting the COAL/CBTO then I wouldn't worry about it.

I have used both IMR4350 and H4831 in my 270's with 130's. As for loads, look in the manuals and work one up that works in YOUR rifle.
I have loaded up 130sst/57/H4831@3.30 COL and 130NP/59/H4831@3.30 COL for testing hoping it will work. I have a load with 130NP/55/IMR4350 (1/2-3/4 in group @100 Yards) Unfortunately i ran out of IMR so I'm loading with H4831 just to see the outcome.

I found my IMR4350 loads work best at near book max. I worked the load up in the 70's.
