.264 Load Help

I have just inherited an old .264 Win Mag 24" with a 1:9" twist barrel (making bullet choice difficult). I intend to hunt Elk at some point soon in the NW (mountains mostly), and I want a reliable bullet that is going to keep its Sh** together at very close ranges (sometimes as short as 50yds) but still rock a lung shot through a canyon (300yds is as far as I'd currently reach for an elk). I've read a lot of forums but they tend to be for either a 26" barrel or 8"twist. I wouldn't feel comfortable below a 140 gr bullet unless you can prove a 130 has the ft-lbs and weight retention to get it done. I'm also curious about using a slightly faster burning powder to make sure the bullet is reaching best velocity by the end of that short barrel. Any and all help, knowledge, and advise is greatly appreciated!

Choose 1 of the solids in 140gr weight.
The slower powders will give you adequate velocities & not work your brass as hard.

What the 6.5's lack in energy they make up in penetration!

Win 264 with 140gr bullets and Retumbo works great. Retumbo is cool burning and delivers good velocity. 1:9 twist barrel should keep 140's stable.

I have one and I use Nosler 140gr Accubonds, RE25, H1000 or Retumbo work extremely well.
As long as you do your part, the Accubond will do it's job with no drama.

Cheers.

I am shooting a 27 3/4" barrel 264 Win mag 9 twist with Retumbo and 130 gr Nosler Accubonds at 3350 fps. I have only shot white tail deer with it but even as close a 30 yards it will pop right through both shoulders leaving about a quarter size hole. Out of 20+, actually lost count, deer shot with it I have only recovered one bullet. It was from a 190 LB buck shot at 111 yards almost facing me in the corner of the left shoulder. Bullet smashed the shoulder bone took out the vitals and was found in the right ham against the smashed ball socket when cutting up the meat. Bullet was a text book mushroom and weight was 87 grs. Don't get much better than than for me. If I ever got to go elk hunting it would be what I would use.

I managed to get my hands on the Retumbo as you guys advised (it seems like the best choice) but I can't seem to find anywhere that has the 140gr accubond in stock (or the 130gr for that matter). Is there a website or location you guys would advise I go to for a faster result?
