.262 nk 6br

Turn the wall thikness to .0085"...that will give a loaded round neck dia. of aprox .260" and change...depending on the pressure ring and it location and what FB your reamer has...but no matter what the pressure ring has to make the trip out of the neck and down the bbl....Roger

The bushing is determined by the loaded round neck dia...and that is determind by how thik/thin u turn em!!?? If you make em .0085 like suggested ...then they will load around .260...I had much sucess with a .258 Wilson....,,I reccomend the Wilson bushing because it can be inverted to tighten up the neck a lil,,.0005")) if needed...and the Redding are not as uniform with their dims..!!) ......Roger

I use a .258 and a .259 for starters for a .262 neck, and look for around .260 loaded
with my Hart .262.......

Thanks everyone for the help. I am suppose to have some brass and dies in tomorrow or first of next week. I may need some more help after I start loading, but maybe not. I'll start with the .258 bushing and trim to a .00085 neck.

Thanks again.

I would strongly suggest a .0085 neck - if you turn a .00085, you be able to read the news paper through it.

I got my brass and bullets today. I started turning a few necks with my RCBS quick change neck turner to .258. When I loaded a 107 SMK it was .261. Will this be ok or do i need to go a little more? My barrel says .262NK.

The brass is Lapua and it measures about .2675-.268. I'm going to .258 and it is taking several pass on the RCBS handheld turner to get there. Is there a better way to do this or better equipment?

Thanks

"I" think you are too tite...go a lil' thinner...you are close...do you have a tubing mike??? They are invaluable for guageing the wall thickness as you turn em and adjusting the cutter depth!!! I have never seen or used a tool like the one U have ....the very best is the mandrel type like K & M or the "Pumkin" by Don Neilson....
Be shure and seat a bullet at leeast 2 times and resize the neck each time to Iron out the wrinkles in it....they will get a lil thinner as this happens....you are getting close..and the measurement with a bullet seated is the most accurate and realistic measurement to find the perfect size....and OBTW..you will always ruin a few pieces of brass getting things rite..!!!! I try and use "culls" to get things set "ust rite",,then switch to the good stuff once you git the hang of it!!...Roger

Yes, I have a tubing mic. Necks are about .0085-009. I have taken several measurements around the neck and everything looks good with all sides being equal with in .0005 or less. The RCBS does use a mandrel and the necks fit good and tight.

HI MIke...good ...I still reccomend ....goin to .0085 to get the loaded rd. to .260 +/- a-lil....
Now you see why I have gone to no-turn chambers...Im gettin old and lazy...and can have hundreds of rounds ready to go in a few hours....Roger

You should be fine...

If you go too thin, your necks will be very fragile. At this point, you have already removed 35% of the wall thickness, if you take another thou off, you will be removing 12% of what's left of your wall... They are already fragile enough with a .261.

Like some others have commented - I also will no longer use thin tight necks... the most I will turn a neck is ONE thou to clean up brass, but I would never take off 5 thou from a neck any more.
