6mm br reamer question

My gunsmith has two 6mm br reamers. One is 6mm br remington and the other is 6mm br match. One measures .262 and the other is .272. Which reamer should be used in order to use Lapua or Norma brass right out of the box? I know one may need neck turning. I'm new at this, so go easy.

The 6br Remington with the .272 neck is the one to use out of the box, the .262 is a tight necked chamber and would need to have the necks turned before they should be fired.......

Hello jawshunting,
You need to be careful on your reamer selection. Just because your gunsmith's reamers are 262 neck or 272 neck doesn't necessarily mean that either will work with Lapua brass. There is a slight difference between a 6BR Norma reamer and 6BR Rem. reamer. The difference between the two is at the base of the case with the Norma/Lapua chamber being slightly larger in diameter. You can usually use Lapua brass in the 6BR Rem. chamber but you'll have to run your cases through a SMALL BASE DIE. I have had to deal with this myself in rifles that were built using both reamers. However, you are certainly on the best web page for asking these questions as there are people here that know FAR MORE than I about this. Go to the home page look on the left side scroll down to ARTICLES, then select the article from Dave Kiff titled Chamber reamers for 6BR. Read all of it he explains it much better than I.
