260ai with 140molys

Just curious if any of the 260ai shooters have tried the Berger 140gr moly and the reloder17 combination? Looks like it should be right at 6.5-284 velocities to me.

I have loaded both the moly and non-moly in my 260AI. I did not notice a difference with using the moly, so am not using them. You may find RL17 to be a little fast for the 140. I have had excellent results, higher velocity, less pressure, larger power fill, smallest groups) using either RL19 or Norma MRP. You can fill 98 to 100% fill and get over 2900 fps. The groups have been sub 3/8 inch at 100 yds and under 5 inches at 1000 yds.

At our range the 260AI has won over 7 matches in a row including f class, 560 yd clay bird, 1000 yd steel plate, and 1000 yd paper. Almost everyone is using the 140 gr Berger non-moly with MRP.

On one gun I have shot somewhere between 2500 and 2700 rounds with only 3 thousandths wear on the throat. Have been having excellent life with no fouling issues.

My 2 cents,
I had 260ai ran 142 sierras 47.5 gr. 4831sc. 2870, 30' Boots barrel. Won a couple 1000 yard and 600 yard Matches. The down side 960 rounds the throat moved 37 thousands.

Accurate barrel life out of the 260 AI is about half again as much of a 6.5x284

Somewhere around 2500rds on a good stainless cut rifled barrel, but not on a re chambered factory chrome molly.

Mine is a 1 8.5 Bartlain and loves the 139gr Lapua Scenars Ws2 coated with AA3100 or Ramshot Hunter.

how can a 6.5 round that is burning 1 or 2 less grains of powder than another have 1 and 1/2 times the barrel life? cliffe
