260AI roll call

I've been shooting the 260AI in F/Open for the last 5-6 years and have some good loads, but between social media and at the range I keep seeing it pop up as a new chambering for shooters.

So, let's post up our known good loads. Fire forming and formed. Target pics are always a plus.

My data Fireforming:
44gr H4831 under any 130-145gr bullet and a soft primer like WSR.

Formed with 140 class bullets:
47.3-48gr H4831 in lapua or Peterson brass.

Formed with 150+gr bullets:
45.3gr RL23

I don’t have the rifle yet but I’m in line for an ODCR hunting rig built on an Anti X action, Zack speaks highly of the cartridge. Had the extra action and when he mentioned the 260 AI decided I like to try it. Plus Lapua makes the brass.

Jet, Zack at Old Dominion has the reamers and can make the dies if you want a good die set matches up to your chamber, good guy to work with too. Highly recommended.

For you guys stuck in California and have to shoot a copper bullet, this is 124gr Hammer Hunter over 44.7 gr of H4350, in a small primer piece of Alpha brass and a CCI450 primer. Their is a higher node that is tighter but in a Remington 700 action it craters primers. I’m going to build one on a Bat Igniter and see if I can get there without pressure signs.

Here’s a link I suggest reaching out or sending him a PM, nice guy, helpful. I don’t want to answer for him.

Have you used that HH on Game! I’ve been wanting to try them out, it would be a screamer in the 260 AI

I have two buddies that I shoot with that are very happy with how they preformed and recommended them to me. I built a couple of these for two different friends and one’s headed to Utah for mule deer next week. I’m looking forward to his feedback.

Shot F-Open mid-range with a 260AI for a few years back in 2015-2016, before going 6 BR-DX.

46.0-46.3 H4831Sc with Lapua Palma brass and 140 Berger LRBT. Brux 1-8 30" straight barrel on a worked over Savage Target Action.

This is a 100 yard 10 shot group. Won my division that year against a bunch of 6 BR's. The stars aligned, I don't think that would happen again but it was a hummer barrel in my book.

When Zack built my two 260AIs he suggest I get Redding off the shelf dies. Work great with no issues.

Love that bullet in the .260 AI. It's the closest thing to an Easy Button out there IMO. The BC is a bit behind the Hybrid, but it is one of the most forgiving and easy to tune 6.5 bullets available. I prefer them over the Hybrids - great choice for mid range.

What kind of Velocity are you guys getting from, the .260 AI with, 140 HVLD's / Elite Hunters or 143 gr ELD-X's out of, 24 - 26 inch Hunting size, Barrels WITH,.. "Normal" Pressures ?
