260 Rem with RL17

I hope to try some next week. I ordered a few lbs when it first came out. Ill let you know how it works out.

Well I learned today that Benchmark may NOT be the best choice for the 108 Lapua! My starting load stuck my case head to the bolt face- ouch. Luckily, I got it off without breaking the extractor!

I was about to ask the very same question. Building a 260 variant with 140grn Berger/142grn Sierra bullets this winter and have been offered to purchase some Re 17.

Hope someone chimes in with some results.

Yes, RL17's worth a try in medium-case cartridges. I got 3 pounds of the first batch, used it to good effect in 6XC where I saw a significant increase in velocity beyond what H4831SC or H4350 could safely deliver.

It's supposed to work well in 6.5-284 too; read the bulletin here from Aug 2nd & particularly Feb 12th wher, at the bottom there's a link to a DOC file for Alliant's load data, though all with Speer bullets.

20,000 pounds is reportedly in-bound right now but it'll be another few weeks before it gets into distribution channels for our purchases. Maybe just in time for Santa?

I shoot it in a .260 improved with the 130 Bergers, it will launch at 3199 fps and is accurate. Ron Tilley

Can you give a charge weight to suggest for RL17 and 130gr?

I shoot std. 260 w/accubonds for hunting.

Also, what is your bbl length? Thanks.

Remember mine is a improved chamber, 29" barrel, I started at 44 grains and went up to 47 grains, the upper end is what it likes best. Ron Tilley

I had no luck at all. The best my rilfe shot was 3/4" @100. Its usually 1/2 gun or better. I used 120 Sierra BTHP.
