260 Rem factory twist

Silver $$ Contributor
I just picked up a VLS in 260 this weekend.

Anyone have proof that the factory 9 twist will handle Sierra's 142 MK or Berger's 140 VLD?

Sierra's hotline says no, Berger's gal, reading off the list, says yes.

Or, anybody try Berger's 130 VLD for next choice?

This is strictly for BR 1000yd, to beat back the Savages. :D

No proof, but the SMK would stabilize BEFORE a VLD..
I figure a 142smk @ 2900fps, 9tw & ICAO conditions has an Sg of 1.3
A Berger VLD would be 1.17

So I predict both would stabilize, with the SMK being a better choice, potentially) in 9tw

I have a .260 rem in a vls I use it as a silhouette rifle. I shoot the 142 smk for my ram load at about 2500fps and it stabelizes very well.

Thanks for the help.

I ran the 142's yesterday without a hitch.

2800fps with H-4350 and 2750fps with H-4831sc.

1/2" with either.

140 Bergers are next.

She's not ready for the scrap heap yet.

Just lookin' for an edge, the competition's gettin' fierce.

I am currently in the process of building one in 260 rem for bench shooting and plan to use a 1 in 9.5 twist and plan to use Sierra 123 gr and berger 130vlds. Will let you know the results when I get some bench time olddudeone

olddude, I'd re-think the 9 1/2 twist. If you'd get a 8 1/2" twist, if the 123's or 130's don't work out, you can still try the 140 or 142's, but not the other way around.

BTW, the 140 Berger's shot round holes in my 260. More testing needed, but the 142 SMK's are leading.
