260 Rem AI velocities

Try IMR 7828ssc 5inch drop tube 48Grs. This is my load 140 vlds = 2950fps out off 8 twist 26 inch kreiger. ( no pressure signs at all) of course work up in your rifle.

Agree, anything under .5MOA is good enough for me. Some days it is much better than good.

I would think that reaching the lands at 2.65" with the 140 VLD is putting much of your bullet in the case and severely limiting the amount of a slow burning powder you can load.

You are correct Bill. I have given up on H4831. 7828 has been good at 47.5 and 48gr with minimal change in velocity it delivers 2965-2975fps. 1/2" at 100yds 5 shots. RL17 has been good to 3000fps 3/4" at 100yds 5 shots.

Still need to test 7977 and H414.

Work and hunting is slowing down my loading and testing, and it's only going to get worse over the next few weeks.

Keep your day job, it helps support your passion. Have not tried 7828 but I have a lot of 7828 SSC to try.

I just re-read this thread to refresh my memory before starting to work on some loads for tonight and realized that I mis-typed the COL to reach the lands. I put 2.650?? and it is 2.865. I am loading 47, 47.5 and 48gr of IMR 7828ssc tonight. Hope to get out tomorrow and test them again. Going to test seating at 2.835, 2.840, 2.845 to see what gives best accuracy. I think whichever gives me the best result will get 50-100 rounds loaded and will be what I use for coyotes this winter. Accuracy loads will get shelved until the first PRS match gets closer.

Ran a 260 AI in a 30" Boots Barrel for a 1000 yard prone rifle with 142 SMK

Fire formed 243 Win. brass with R-19 at 600 yard matches and Won.

loaded the cases with H 4831SC and won a few 1000 yard matches at 2860 + or -

A lot of work .....

Went to a 6.6X55 and never looked back.

Did not have any luck with the IMR 4451 in my 260AI. Tried some IMR 7828SSC and it is a dlfferent story. Shooting 47.7 grains with CCI BR2's, 22" 1x8.5 Brux, 140 grn Berger Hunting VLD's @ 2778fps produced 1/4" groups at 100yds.
Next step will take to 200-300yds.

That is an impressive velocity from a short barrel using that slow powder. I am now convinced to try 7828SSc in a long 30" barrel. Bill

I called JGS about this case I'm holding here.. I told him the measurements on it and when I got off the phone both him and I was confident it was a 260Ack Imp formed from Palma brass... But, just yesterday I was reading the page on this site about the 6BR Improved cases and couldn't help but notice the Shehane type (BRBS) has the same short neck as this case.. So with that said,, why would someone form 260AI cases but have the neck only .210 in length? Even the shoulder looks shorter than the 243 Ackley case I'm holding here..?? 1.965OAL is the length of the 260Ack Imp case and 2.020 OAL for the 243Imp one.. Note the 243 case was made from standard Lapua 243Win brass unlike the 260 case being formed from a Palma case...
