.260 OAL with 142smk

A couple of questions
Anyone know what is the cartridge Oal of a 260 loaded with a 142smk ?

will it fit in a seekins DM or badger DM based off of a 700
short action

will it feed smooth in reg box mag and still have the loaded round
with the bullet seated just below neck shoulder junction

are you necking up 243 lapua or going down with 308 lapua to create good .260 brass
thanks

My factory 260 VLS's chamber takes a 2.910 OAL to get a square mark on the bullet using 142 SMK's. I'm not sure how that will help on someone else's chamber.

I use 308 Lapua run through the 7-08 die, then the 260 die, and then neck turn.

Can't help on the rest.

Al

Ok thanks Al,

well I dont want to buy an extra couple of dies and have to neck turn as well...darn a lot more than I wanted to do

appreciate the info

I think the 243 case necked up will work in your case. You won't have to turn the necks if you don't want to. That's the direction i'm going to go with the research i've done.

about 2.85 is all the aics mags will handle. I've heard you can remove the reinforcing metal in the mag and get an extra .1. Glenn Seekins told me he is working on a longer mag and bottom metal that will go out to about 3.1 and is intended for the 7mm wsm's. This is one of the reasons people are going with the 6.5x47 Lapua, high bc cartridges that still fit the mag.

I have gone both ways and I have to neck turn the 243 Lapua as well! I have a .294 neck.

I have fired more 243 than 308 but both are equally capable. I still can't believe nobody makes decent 260 brass and don't get me started on Nosler...
