.260 load data

I just picked up a Remington 700 lss my rifle in .260. This is my first time loading for it. I picked up some h4350 and some 140gr amax bullets. It is a 1:8 twist according to Remington. I can't find any published data with this combination. I was thinking of starting around 39gr and working up to 42gr. Just wanted to get some feedback from others who have loaded for .260. I also have some 100gr nosler partitions and some 4064 I have data on I am also going to try. Thanks

I use IMR4350.... with Barnes 120 TSX and 123 Amax 41-42gr. Can't find where I've used H4350. 4831SC works well with heavier bullets 139-140, RL19 with 130s.

First double check your twist--I thought Remington factory was 9 and it could make all the difference for the 140 a Max's. My go to load is 42.0 gr h4350 behind a Berger 140 VLD. For 100 gr it is 41.0 IMR4064. You could be in great shape. My twist is 8.

I also thought it was a 1:9 so I emailed Remington with the serial number and they gave me a production date and barrel twist. I guess I need to verify that for myself with a little testing. I do know there earlier rifles where 1:10 . I believe.

If it turns out to be a 1:9 will this be to slow for the 140's?
Really hope remington was corect when the said it was a 1:8 but I will check tomorrow.

I have two 260s and they both like 40.7gr of H4350. One likes the 140gr Hybrids the other likes 139gr Scenars.

Good Shooting.

I have a target 260, and a hunting 260. Both 8.5" twist. They shoot 140gn bullets very well with 43.0gn of H4350. I've used up to 44.5gn without pressure issues, but they shoot better down at 43. If your barrel does turn out to be 9:1, it might be a little slow. Don't be scared to try 130's, if the 140's don't shoot good.

Guys thanks for all the replys. I have been a long time member. I don't post alot, but I have learned so much over the years just by reading. Thanks again.

I have 260 Remington 700 long action 26" 8.5.twist Hart barrel . I shoot 140 hunting vld over 43.0 gr of H4350 cci br2 primers super accurate load . I use the same load in my daughter 260 also great load

First thing, start low and work up. I'm running 41.5 gr of h4350 with 140 amax as well. .010 off the lands and cci br2 primers. Works fantastic.

What is your throat length? Mine is 0.165 and has a 1-8 twist. Likes 42.5 gr H4350 with SMK 142's. you may need to modify if your throat is different.
I do not know the throat length. I am not real sure how to measure it. Is your gun a factory mountain rifle?

Mine is a custom barrel. Several ways to measure. May not be that important if you are using a factory magazine that limits your OAL to 2.8". Load a dummy round with the bullet you wish to use at magazine length. Mark the bullet with a black Sharpie from end of neck forward to end of ogive. Carefully chamber slowly and see if you have rifling marks. You can adjust the bullet seating to your preferred distance from rifling. I never seat too close to rifling in a hunting round that will be loaded and unloaded so you don't stick a bullet in the rifling.
Your magazine may require seating deep enough that your bullet never touches.
