26 nosler

what is the PARENT case for the 26 NOSLER?? P.T.&G. has reamers to neck it up or down.just thinking of a new rifle. thanks to all that can help.

From a Field & Stream article:

The 26 Nosler (no decimal point) is based on a shortened (.30/06-length) version of the .404 Jeffrey case, blown out and with a short neck and sharp shoulder.

Google , what is the parent case of the 26 nosler and it is a field & stream article which is short and concise. It will drive a 140 grain bullet to 3300 FPS.

Seems like I read somewhere that you could make 26 Nosler cases out of 7 RUM or 300 RUM. They are all based on the .404 Jeffery

so then how can a 28 nosler that MCWORTER RIFLE IS BRAGING ABOUT be any better than a 7mm rum. ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS.??

It's probably slightly cheaper to shoot (less powder) and may have a longer barrel life. Other than that, it could be more accurate due to less recoil which causes some people to flinch and a better shoulder angle. It also will headspace off of the shoulder instead of the case belt which can lead to better accuracy.

The 26 Nosler holds 35% more powder than the 264 Winchester Magnum... which, itself, is no slouch in the barrel burning department.

With a volume of 93 grains, barrel life through a 6.5mm bore should be in the neighborhood of 400 to 500 rounds. By the time you work up a load, you need a new barrel.

:(

I'm going to wildcat that puppy to a 17-26 Nosler shooting solids. If I can get the bullet down the barrel without melting it, I figure I can get the velocity up around 5200. I'll start out with a 32 inch barrel and set it back every 50 rounds.

I bet you could get around 5000 with a .224 bullet and have a better selection of bullets. Think about it, 5000 vs 5200, what is the difference?

If you cant find a load in 500 rounds, you should probably try something different
