26 nosler

anyone seen this yet. it was apparently introduced at shot show. i was just curious about the parent case. what do you suppose it is/was? i don't see any advantage over the 6.5 rsaum or wsm but its neat to see a factory chambering in a fast (magnum speed) 6.5.

Hi all

I've been wondering when discussion about this new cartridge would start. The rim looks rebated so it's likely based on the 404 Jeffrey rather than the 375 Ruger.

It's very overbore, but for its intended purpose as a long range hunting round a few hundred rounds should last a lifetime of hunting. Just don't imagine it being any good for 1000 yard benchrest or open F-class competition...

I think Nosler have found a genuine niche in the huge array of new cartridges. It's longer than the WSM and RSAUM cartridges, but shorter than the ultra magnums.

Necking the 26 Nosler up to 308 is going to be easier than necking down the 375 Ruger. Just be sure to turn the doughnuts off the outside of the neck.

Regards

Ben

There's a vital stats picture on 24hourcampfire ... not sure if official ... but 0.532" base, 2.590" case length, 3.340" loaded length. Talk of dummies being handled with 7mmRUM bases.

I think anyone with an existing 7mmRemMag or 338WinMag is looking at a very simple upgrade if they'll run a wildcat, maybe even 375Ruger chambers will clean out? Place the 338cal into a longer H&H action like a Rem700 or even Howa and seat the Sierra Matchking 250gr/300gr out and it could be very interesting.

Nothing like a new commercial case to get wildcatters salivating! ;D
Cheers...
