25br information please

I don't care one way or the other if the 6mm BR Remington has/had SAAMI approval. I do think the website that bears it's name should correct any discrepancies in their history of the cartridge. I also believe that when facts show that a persons statement to be wrong, that misstatement should be called out.

I agree with what you said - I don't know who owns the 6mmBR site, but you should contact them and have them correct it.

I and I also agree that when someone makes a misstatement that is wrong, that it should be called out.

Mr. gunsmith (and you) made several, and I called them out.

You miss-spoke here: "If a cartridge is a wildcat (and the BR family are technically all wildcats), and people are making them to various measurements, then SAAMI will never touch it."
I called you out as to why would SAAMI approve the 6x45 wildcat if that was true, and you failed to answer.
So, you agree with what I said....yet claim I miss-spoke. How does that work?

PT&G 6BR Norma piloted finish reamer #PTG-000045, made to SAAIM specifications for standardized cartridges.

Edit: CIP and SAAMI have reciprocal agreements in place (at least in theory) which makes CIP chambering's a SAAMI standard chambering as well. Look at the 338 Lapua Magnum. It was CIP approved in 1989, yet the SAAMI site continues to list it as pending after this many years? It is a standardized chambering. SAAMI needs to update their site!

In order to be accepted, some one has to apply - SAAMI does NOT approve cartridges on their own. Obviously, someone made the application for the 6mmx45 chamber.

THAT is "how that works".

Well I am finding out why not many people used this cartridge .. There are not many bullets for a 14" 1-10 barrel that would be classified as target bullets ..

I bought an oddball Remington XP-100 to shoot metallic silhouette with. I've wanted an xp-100 and the price was right. What I didn't know was what an oddball the 25br was. I am having zero luck finding saami specs or any information on it. I have 5 reloading manuals and none of them have anything about it at all. The gun came with a data card and a few loads, but I would like more . Thank you .. K

A few years back an Australian magazine ran a 25BR article. Rifle was an odd-ball built on a Mossberg 4x4, the 22/250 magazines allegedly fed perfectly. Built for lighter pills, recorded velocities were 75gr at 3080-3190, 85gr at 2911-3010, 90gr at 2839-2896 and 100gr at 2684-2798fps with ADI (Hodgdon) powders. Unfortunately the details of barrel length aren't listed, but I assume 26".
Cheers...

I don't shoot that particular cartridge, but I do shoot a.25 caliber rifle (.257 AI) and have found bullet selection is limited.
Since your XP was intended for hunting/silhouette the bullet selections might meet those accuracy requirements nicely. I think you'll get silhouette accuracy with 100 grain SMK and Sierra's 117-120 grain offerings. The referenced Gun of the Week article might give you a starting place regarding load development. If not 6BR loads should provide a close enough starting point.

Please give us an update whenever you can (you can leave out all the SAAMI stuff)

Call Randy Robinett. Talk to him. I doubt you'll find anyone more knowledgeable about the 25 caliber. Not only does he make the best quarter bore target bullets on the planet, he also shoots them in competition, has won a fair amount of fake wood with them, and hunts with the quarter bore.

First match out with the gun went very well. The gun is better than my eyes. (Iron sights) I shot a 30 out of 40 on metallic silhouette out to 200 meters. I would have had a 32 but shot the targets out of order .. DOH ! I went with 120 grain bullets for the mass to knock the Rams down at 200 meters. Now I just need to find brass. The brass I am using new is headstamped
"R-P 6 mm BR REM" When I was loading it some of the primer pockets were too loose. I was digging around and it looks like I should switch to Lapua brass. It looks like the Remington brass is hard to find.

If the web diameter, of the chamber, is large enough to accept LAPUA 6BR Norma brass, just acquire some, neck it up, trim to length (and if necessary, turn to proper wall thickness) and enjoy! In order for the LAPUA brass to work well, the chamber diameter - at the web, or, 0.200" ahead of the bolt-face - needs to be at least 0.470" . . . and larger is better. Good shootin'! RG

Sorry I am so late getting back to everyone on this. Family emergency had had me all tied up for the past 3 weeks. The neck thickness on the brass I have now is .0124 .. loaded brass neck is .282" . What should I use to trim the od of the brass if I need to?

I am pretty Clay Spencer and or Don Jones used it some in BR Comp for a while they may be able to help

Better'n the funny papers!
you guys can argue all you want over spec, and it helps none

to the owner/shooter of the xp you have is in luck, I believe it may have belonged to a friend shooting with us in SE Ga. some years ago --when he built it the loads he built were based on 2015 and the 120 hornady or the SIerra 120spbt which both gave in international class.

he targeted 2150fps with no sweat and it shot light out.
