257 Sierra Gamechanger / Tipped Game King / TGK

Hi folks,

I have had good luck shooting the Speer 120gr SPBT bullet in my 257 Roberts. It runs about 2850 fps, tracks nicely and works well on deer.

Those 120gr SPBT bullets are becoming increasingly hard to come by.

I am wondering about changing to the 110gr Sierra Gamechanger / Tipped Game King / TGK. Anyone have any experience of this bullet?

Best wishes,

Scrummy

Haven't had the chance to play with them yet.
Looking forward to getting some to test.

The 110gr ELDX was fairly accurate.

Those are the two bullets I plan on trying in my .257 WBY. Some day! The 110 gr Accubonds shot great in the WBY but they were hard to find even before this mess started.

Shooting some out of my 20” custom roberts...it’s relatively warm load i think but excellent accuracy so far. 2950’s fps with reloder 23. Shot some at 550 yards, a little breezy and still fine tuning but its sub moa so far. Seems happy. No game kills yet just got them running this year. Will try in the fall

have you tried hornady 117 btsp? Worked ok for me too but no quite as good as the gamechanger, but i was loading re19 in those. Might try it with 23 since i still have alot of the 117’s still

I haven't tried the 117 gr Hornady BTSPs but the 117gr Sierra Gameking SBT did pretty well. I had some Hornady 117gr SST Superperformance factory that shoot OK but not up to the factory premium price.

Interestingly, I dropped Nosler Customer Service a line and asked about an Accubond Long Range in 25 Cal.

Got this as a response:

"Thank you for reaching out to Nosler with your feedback below. We’ve been contemplating about adding a 25 caliber ABLR to the product line and I’m sure it will happen in the future, we just don’t know when yet.

Did you have a 25 caliber ABLR bullet weight in mind?"

I replied I thought 110gr should do it

110-115 is about all you can do with a long length bullet That the accubond LR will have, for it to compete with the tipped gameking, in the common 1:10 twist models out there. Guys with custom barrels can do the heavier longer stuff but a ton of factory 25 cal guns out there with 1:10’s

That was my thinking for suggesting 110gr.

Shot a deer with my 257 this weekend. Kinda confused on what happened on the first shot but second worked as expected

he was out 300 yards On a hillside and i dialed 3.5 moa as per my ballistic ap which was tested in my home state to be on out to 565. Even 1375 actually. But the test spot is abit higher elevation. I had input the current hunting conditions and weather to recalculate

buck jumped and kicked at the shot. I was aiming just behind shoulder but about mid body line to just above mid body line. Buck ran away up the hill 50 or so yards and stopped. Looking right and left. I could see the neck well and shot again and hit exactly where i was aiming. He dropped and rolled down the steep hillside to the creek. Upon looking at the deer there was a mark high on back in the backstrap area like i hit 5” higher than aim point. However it only seemed surface flesh damage as if the bullet bounced off him . It was weird like only 1/4” or so deep flesh damage but under that was fine. No pass thru the top spine ridge that runs thru there, no holes in the meat under the surface wound. So maybe i missed completely and it was a wound from falling down the hill somehow?

neck wound looked good, good wound channel and almost a quarter size exit. Bit smaller than a quarter. That was around 350-360 yards and impact velocity of 2200-2250. So it seemed to do ok. Wish i had a proper hit on it to see how it held up but seems to have good potential

I have not shot the Hornady 117's. Years ago, I shot a lot of deer, and especially antelope with 25/06 and the Sierra 117 btsp and flat base. Always have felt like the Sierra 117 is a bullet worth building a rifle around in how they kill fast. I have a lot of confidence in Hornady Cup and core bullets, no reason to not think the same thing about the 117's.

Shot a deer last year at 75 yards with the hornady 117 and went thru, Broadside lung shot, nice mushroom and exited with a good sized hole. Very good bullet just not as accurate for me so far but acceptable for hunting
