257 Bob Accuracy loads

Would be interested in anyone’s 257 Bob accuracy loads with 100-117 gr bullets. Have an elderly fellow wanting me to help him develop an accurate load for a 721 Rem. It’s not that he ll hunt with it but he’s wanting it to shoot really good groups at 300 yards because when his brother-in-law visits they always have an informal shooting contest at the ranch with 5 round 300 yard groups. ( They re both in their late 70 s and are good riflemen. )

Listening to them smack talk while they re shooting is the most fun for us younger guys. (If 50-60 considered young!)

Anyway have a variety of powders and bullets available for this load work up. Figuring powders between 4064 and H4831 would be right burn range. Have IMR, Hodgdon and Alliant flavors. Plan to start just off lands.
Suggestions on powder, charge weight area and bullets ( flat base vs boat tail) etc all welcome. Gun is 10” twist.
Thx for any and all help!

I used to have a 700 Classic in 257 Roberts. It really liked 100gr Sierra FB Spitzers with 42gr of IMR4064. Average of a bunch of 4 & 5 shot groups was around 3/4" @ around 3050fps. Same bullets & IMR 4350 was almost as good but best groups were a bit larger at around 80fps slower than the 4064 load. Nosler 100gr. Ball.Tips were 2nd choice with same powder charge. Still wondering why I sold that rifle...

I have a Ruger 77 MKII.
I'm using PVRI Partisen (PPU) 7X57 Mauser brass necked down.
Fed210M primers
Bullets range from 75gr varmint to 120gr Sierra HPBT GameKings.
For the 75, 90gr bullets i've been using H414 (Win760). Coyotes past 400 yards no problem.
Deer i've been using 100, 115gr Nosler Ballistic Tips, and 115gr Berger VLD with Hybrid100V.

To those who ve responses and others who will, are you finding best accuracy with mid-range or upper pressure loads?

This may be on the hotter end but mine so far loves this load

110 sierra game changers
Reloder 23. Between 45.2-45.4 grains. Its flat between there and both shot good groups but i need more testing at 500+ yrds to really see anything
Winchester cases fed 215m primer
Its 2950 fps from my 20” barrel

i’ve had pretty good accuracy with 117 hornady btsp and reloder 19 as well. But not as consistent and as good as these tipped game kings and re23

I'm loading to +P spec. (58,000psi)
But most accurate are right at the top end of SAAMI spec. (56,000 psi).
Which is nice too have some wiggle room on pressures.

I'd try Hunter powder with your favorite 100-grn. bullet. In two different .257 Roberts factory guns I have had, neither would shoot 117 Grain bullets anywhere as good as 100 grain - no matter the make - so if I were after a pure accuracy load with mine - I'd focus on 100-grain bullets, rather than the 117's which I'd prefer for hunting - unless using the Barnes TSX, where I'd use their 100 grain as well. Good Luck.

Till you get past about 400 yards, you don't need the extra BC from the boat tailed bullets.
No I'm aware of that. It's probably even further but I'd like to experiment at my range with some of them out to 800 yards. When I get that far out, I'll be using the Blackjacks
