.250 Savage and cast bullets

Nope.
75gr Sierra HP Varmint, 90gr Sierra BlitzKing & 100gr Nosler Ballistic Tips for deer.

Would love to find some 110gr Sierra Tipped GameKings!

That my 250 Savage.
Berger 115gr VLD, 115gr Ballistic Tips and 120gr Partitions in my 257 Roberts, 257 Roberts AI, and 25 WSSM.

Use to , the 250 and 257 cast lead with unique , unchecked and 4198 ( ? ) with check 89 gr lyman unique was good with near max and super mild loads . 4198 was a hit or miss , one rifle liked it while another would not .

I have found that both Unique and Reloder 7 are great powders for the .250 Savage and nominal 100g bullets.
Unique doesn't measure well outta my Dillon 450 powder measure. I get from .2 to .3g swings from a charge of 9.5g. When I use it, I weigh every charge. Reloder 7 only swings. 1 g from my charge of 14.3g, so I don't have to weigh every charge.
Right now I am using a Lee factory crimp die on all rounds loaded. A test of 8 five shot groups showed an average of about 3/10" tighter groups at 100 yards than without the Lee FCD.

I had a 257 Roberts that liked smaller cast bullets. The 65 grain 257420 Lyman. I used Unique powder. I'm still working on two new 257/223 cast bullet shooters. I'll keep u posted.

SHUZ WROTE : "Is your 257/223 the same as a 25TCU?" Until the custom reamer comes in. I'm using Lee Dies 25/45 sharps, But I started this nonsense years before that cartridge came into being, so I'm not 100% sure. Mine is going to be very short in the free bore, just enough for the Lyman 257420 cast bullet.

You might want to hop over to Castboolitts.com, they are a virtual goldmine of cast bullet info, I am on their a lot. As mentioned, Unique, Rel 7, and IMR 4198 are great cast bullet powders. I currently load and shoot 14 different calbiers of centerfire rifles with cast bullets. You might also look at powder coating and gas checking your bullets as well. I have a good friend, who had a older 1894 Win in .32 spl, that was shooting terrible groups at 100yds, with .321 cast bullets. I cast him some .324 173 gr, originally for a 8x57 Mauser, PC them, sized them on a 450 lyman to .321 and put on a Horady gas check. Tiny groups at 50 yds and 2" at 100, this is with open sights. And no leading, you can shoot 100 rounds, run 3-4 patches with Hoppes#9 and a oily patch, done with clean up. I am getting ready to start some .25 cal cast shooting, with a No 1 25/06, and a Falling Block Works custom rifle with a Douglas half oct/half round custom barrel in .25/20single shot. Pm me if I can be of any help.

Koger-- Thanks for the reply. I have been on the Cast Boolits site since it's inception in March of 2005. I have been shooting cast in CBA matches for about 30 years now. I mostly use the. 250 Savage in a bolt action. Currently I have a Savage model 16 in that chambering, but down through the years I have shot a couplea Rem 700 Classic rifles also in .250 Savage. I also compete with a Savage mdl 11, or maybe it's a mdl 10, but short action anyway in .308 Winchester.
In the CBA competition circles, most folks use at least a .30 caliber. I choose to be different and try to compete with the
250 Savage!!

Did a few years back. 100 Grn gas checked semi-round nose in a 25-06. At the time had a load worked up that shot very well to 200 yrds. Don't remember what it was however, too many years have past and records lost.
