25 Dasher

Alas, i'm in the process of building a 250 Savage for use with lighter weight bullets.

If you build one, would like to know your experience with it!

What are you looking to know? I have samples of both bullets and can help with any cartridge geometry, but performance I won’t be of much assistance.

I’m working on a 25GT currently, which I see as a scaled up 6 Dasher. Again, I only have dummies made up, so no performance data. Expecting 2700-2750fps with the 130-135 class bullets

I was wondering if anyone had real world performance numbers with it. I have quickload and can guess based off of that. But real world experience trumps that IMO>

Wholly agree with that. I personally think the dasher case is a bit too small for the heavy 25s. From a pure performance perspective, the BC benefit of the 130s over the 6mm offerings won’t overcome the differential in velocity, when moving to the larger bullet. Don’t get me wrong, it would probably still be a very good, consistent cartridge, just suboptimal for the bullet choice.

I am making an assumption that this would be intended for longer ranges since the original post specifically targeted the heavy 25 cal bullets.

Quickload doesn't shot much difference in speed between a 25 Dasher and a 25x47 Lapua with the short barrel I'm planning on using on my pistol.
What would be your intended application?

I can see where a short barrel would mitigate the velocity of a marginally larger cartridge. I find it interesting that the Dasher parent case is normally one that people do everything that they can to maximize its potential.

Not criticizing, just intrigued.

Just found this thread in the Varmint forum on here. Guy is using a 25 CM in a pistol platform, with Nosler 110 ABs for 2700ish FPS. This is probably the best starting point you’ll find for your application.

If you end up pursuing this combination, keep us informed.

Just got my 25 dasher with twin barrels 10 twist and 7.5 twist donnelly and preferred barrel respectively on a rem 600action and factory bottom metal wanted a varmint gun that would double as a match rifle wanted a repeater and had a good action

I built 25 Creedmoors for a couple of my friends and me. There are tons of data out there by now on this cartridge with the big bullets. I personally prefer it over the 6.5 CM and the 6 CM for just about every application because of hard hitting accuracy and enough speed/impact for good hunting too. I used mine in 600 yard F-Class Open for a season and practiced at 1000 yards a bit. The 131g Blackjack at 2950 fps was deadly accurate for me at any supersonic range.

After one season though, I switched to the 6 Dasher because the 25 CM generated the most intense barrel heat I have experienced with any cartridge. It constrained my ability to shoot accurately during some wind conditions where I wanted to fill the X-Ring with bullet holes quickly. I also toasted my first barrel at 1400 rounds. You hate to see that happen when that barrel is winning you matches. My Dasher does almost double that. I'm sure it would be a fun cartridge to shoot but I personally have no interest in making a 25 Dasher. It would be accurate for sure but I prefer more velocity to help me fight the wind in long range shooting. Instead, I made a couple 7.5 twist 25-06 AI hunting rifles and they are simply amazing for long range hunting. I'm still loving the 6 Dasher for competition. I've found the .284 Win and the .300 Dakota to be highly accurate at 1000 yards (but not as accurate as the Dasher) and they double as great longer range hunting rifles. The recoil of larger cartridges wears me out so I don't shoot them in competition.
