25 Creedmoor load data with 131’s

Got a new 25 Creedmoor coming my way in the up coming weeks. Wondering if anyways had any data on 131’s with rl 16, h-4350 and rl 26?

Usual caveat - Approach all reloading data with caution. What is safe in my rifle may not be in yours.

I am working on a load for my .25 Creed with the 131's in a 7.5tw 26" barrel. I found a node @ 2900fps with 42.3 of my lot of H4350. I loaded to 43.1gr before seeing pressure signs and found nothing worth chasing.

Using RL16, I easily attained 2900fps @ 41.1gr but not with the accuracy of the H4350. I have not loaded to pressure with this powder and will continue testing.

Re. RL26, I haven't tried it in my 25 Creed but found some great results in my 6 Creed with the 103gr Vapor Trails. One thing I noted is that my ES/SD were rather high with this powder.

I hope to try both RL17 & H4831 before its all said and done. I will keep you posted.

Good luck with it.

Gerald

1:7.5 I used the Berger Twist Rate Calculator to determine what I felt would be the best twist for my rifle. The calculator is great because you can enter different FPS, altitudes until you find what you are looking for. My load for my 25-284 is 55.5 grs. of RL 26 using Lapua brass and CCI BR primers. This load in MY rifle safely shoots one big ragged hole at 100 yards. Unfortunately, I'm not near any shooting ranges over 100 yards so I have never had the chance to really wring out those Blackjacks.

I have edited my post as I realized that I had posted some wrong information about H-4350. This time I double read my changes.

Greetings, all! Here's my load for 25 Creedmoor:

41.6 grains Reloder 16, Starline SRP brass, FGMM small rifle primer, 131 seated to a 15 thousandths jump. Ten shot avg 2972, SD was either 3.4 or 3.6, ES of 9.

I believe my barrel is a K&P. ES Tactical chambered it. It's a 26" 7 twist for my Desert Tech

As a footnote to my previous post, here is where I landed after testing primers this afternoon.
- Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor brass necked down with .282 bushing. Necks are turned to .013 in a .288 Nk.
- CCI BR4 primer (also tested with Fed 205M & CCI450). The BR4 gave me the best SD/ES while the 450's avg'd 14 fps faster
- BlackJack 131 gr seated .040 off lands
- 43.1gr of RL16: Avg 3019fps/ES 3fps
(note: I have to use drop tube and vibration for load to settle. My absolute max is 43.3. I've read where Alpha brass has slightly greater powder capacity. This load was tested with temps in low 60's. I am SURE this in NOT a hot temperature load. Even at 43.3, I have seen no pressure signs.)

Good luck with it.

So, tell me about those powder burns on that target. :p:eek::D:rolleyes::)

100yds I assume?

You are correct. It took me a little bit of testing to find the seating depth. I'd heard other shooters say they were using 0.030" and 0.040" jumps. Others were saying they found their sweet spots in the 0.015" jump range. Turns out between 15 and 18 thousandths tightened up the group for me. For whatever reason, my barrel/bullet combo didn't like anything over 0.020" jump.

Edit: I started at 0.020" and moved to 0.030", but my groups opened up significantly, so I started seating closer to the lands, which tightened up my groups. I had success between 0.005" and 0.015", but it wasn't until 0.015" to 0.020" that I saw the best results. What's funny is other shooters, like geraldgee above, are having their best results with a lot of distance to the lands, so I'd say if you're having a hard time getting them to group, keep testing your seating depth to see what your barrel likes

Is there a book or something on this round to have a starting point to follow? I have QuickLOAD but they don’t have the 25 Creedmoor in the program and I cannot find a manual that supports this round.
