25 Creedmoor (Help Please)

First of all, a HUGE Thank You goes out to @Beiruty for sharing his data on GRT. I was using QuickLOAD and it had me starting substantially higher on loads. Comparing the two programs, I chose the lower levels of GRT to be on the safe side of things. Thanks again buddy!

Okay.. So I loaded up some rounds today and I’m all ready to do some load development. The consensus of all the data I was able to research tells me to start at 38.0grs of H4350 and work my way up to 38.80grs of H4350. So, I did exactly that.

I loaded up 20rds @ 38.0grs for sighting in my scope and getting the barrel broken in.

Then I loaded up 50rds to do an OCW ladder load development of 5 shots each going from 38.0 to 39.8grs.

I’m going to chrono everything and take lots of notes.

We’ll see what I find out and God willing all goes we’ll and I’m safe..
Good luck!
Keep us posted!

I have one being built at LongRifles currently. That being said, I want to find a good source to do some reloading for thiis round.

Unfortunately, its not in quickload or any of the manuals I have either.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Ingot that from Berger as well. I’ve been doing some testing and seemed to have settled at 39.0 & 39.2grs if H4350. It has me at around 2700-2750fps which isn’t as fast as most on here but is super accurate under a half inch and single digit SDs so I’m pretty happy with those results. We’ll see if I get bored and want to bump them up but for now k think that’s good for me.

I’m at 39.6 breaking in a new Bartlein mod400 barrel. I’m at your speed. Very accurate, but velocity going everywhere with high SDs. I’m not impressed so far, but have less than a 100 rds fired. Our speeds match published data

I actually built 2. One a heavy comp rifle, the other a hunter. Seeing same with both. Finally got some Alpha brass in. I’m going to try that

Interesting… our data is the same but cant believe your SDs and ESs are all over the map. I will say, I’ve turned my necks, annealed my brass, FL resized with a neck bushing to .255 and unjfrmed my primer pockets and seated the primers to .0035 and seated projectiles to .020 off the lands. i dunno if that has something to do with my consistency but also I use an RCBS MatchMaster to measure the charge and I do exactly 39.00 and the other load of 39.20… all this takes some time but worth effort when the results are experienced downrange.

I rechecked my data tonight. Mainly due to seeing more than normal web expansion on 1st firing. I made a post about it in the reloading forum. My 26” comp rifle SDs gradually lowered to 4.0 on my last. Both of my 6 GTs shoot under a 5. I can’t take much credit for that. It’s as good as a dasher & br. Same as with my 1 22 GT. I usually don’t neck turn. I had to with the 25 CMs. They were cut with the BJ rev2 reamer and the Peterson brass ran 14.8 - 15.2+ on neck wall thickness. I ran into pressure on the 1st few rounds & stopped. Back in my reloading room I found you couldn’t fit a bullet into a fired case without forcing it. So I turned all to 13.8 thou. With this Peterson I did all the tasks you did with your brass. If it was Lapua or Alpha I would have left out deburring flashholes & uniforming primer pockets. From weighing with a balance beam & a trickler while still in the Marines in 73 my fav upgrade that I enjoy more than my AMP is the AutoTrickler v4. After reading through your post I feel confident your reloading techniques aren’t superior enough to be the root cause of the difference in our SDs.

Now that you’ve aired your superiority over reloading techniques & I’ve given my childish response instead of just ignoring you. I’m going to continue working with my rifles. They are both well under 100 rounds & nobody has enough experience yet on the BBmod400 steel, unless it’s someone like Frank Green with Bartlein, to know if it takes a few more rounds.
Best wishes & a good night to you.

Sounds good. I’m definitely not airing any superiority, simply sharing what I do to get where I’m at. You’re welcome to take from it what you will, i just wanted to help if I could. Good luck to you.

Okay, the rifle should be in my hands in about a week. In the meantime, I fully prepped some new Peterson 25 Creedmoor brass. Its probably overkill but I always like to be able to fine tune and measure as much as possible to eliminate as many variables as I can. So I did the following...
  • Turned the necks to 0.015"
  • Annealed using a Giraud Annealer
  • FL resized with a Redding Type S Bushing Die with a .283 Neck Bushing and bumped the shoulders back .0005 so theyre at 1.151"
  • Mandrel expanded the necks to .255"
  • Uniformed the primer pockets
  • Chamferred the primer pockets
  • De-burred the flash holes
  • Chamferred and De-Burred the case necks
  • Finally I started seating primers and those are set at .003 below flush
Now its time for powder and projectile. The dilemma still lies at where I plan to start and how high I plan to go. Initially, I was thinking 40.0grs of H4350 and work up in .03gr increments to 42.7 or 43.0grs (The last two might be on the edge but I have nothing to reference at the moment being there's no manuals and QuickLOAD still doesn't have an update for this caliber yet so if I go there, I'll definitely proceed with extreme caution upon getting close to those last few loads).

I'm curious what y'all have to say about my load development plans. Am I starting too low out of caution or not low enough? Also, How many rounds per load is an acceptable load development? (I was thinking 5 per, unless that's a waste.
That sounds like a good plan to me. You will have multiple accuracy nodes in that range but need to see what you prefer and how wide they are. I shot mine in F-Class competition at 2910 fps with CCI450 primers, 41.9g & 42.0g of H4350 with a .010" jump using the Blackjack 131g bullet in a 28" Bartlein 5R barrel. It was a high scoring round but I quit using it because that bullet generated too much barrel heat for that competition.

I shot around 70 rounds per match and the heat mirage would stop me within 8-10 shots on each relay. I used a scope tube to shoot through the mirage but burned the first barrel out in 1450 rounds. I know it would have lasted a lot longer than that if I could have kept the barrel cool as I shot such as I did with 1000 prairie dog shooting. I moved the chamber ahead and it shoots great again though. I shoot the 22CM, 6CM, 25CM and 6.5CM and the 25 is my personal favorite of the bunch. The 25CM is a great combination of velocity and impact if you only shoot one of these. Kind of a great trade-off between the 6CM and 6.5CM. The 131-135g bullets are as high in precision at 1000 yards as anything you will find in any cartridge. They are the best of the bunch for handling wind. It is a very flexible cartridge for hunting with light recoil and lots of range. It will take elk to about 500 yards and deer to 900 yards of you are a good enough shot to hit them.

Yes, the .257 Roberts AI is a similar cartridge but in a short action, you would have to seat these bullets into the powder column, reducing its velocity. However, in a 7.25 twist barrel you could get it to perform very similar to the 25CM with these big bullets.

Anyone have a 25 with a 22" barrel? I'm debating this route for my 8 yr old sons rifle. Really torn between doing a standard 6 Creed and a 25. (Suppressed)

I did load workup on a 22" 25 creed with 135 bergers and rl16. Was making 2720 fps and holding a 3 inch line @1000 yards. Liked it so much I carried it elk hunting this year. Was very impressed. This was a standard BJ reamer in a Helix6 barrel.

Alpha case 41.6 R17 and a 135 berger gets me 2930 out of a 26" barrel holds
.5 to .6 at 200 yards on a bipod. Cant wait to shoot it long and see what it does.
ES and SD were excellent, seems like an easy round to load for.
