25 Creedmoor 131 Blackjack's

Been there done that! They are a noisy bunch that cry about no high bc bullets but none are willing to put a barrel with a fast enough twist to stabilize a high bc bullet on their rifles. Somehow they think it should be possible to make a high bc bullet that will stabilize in a 10" twist. Ain't gonna happen.

I guess I'm not exactly sure who/what you are referring to here?

Congratulations on the groups! Beautiful range for sure!

Yeah, I could LIVE there.

Are you still liking this caliber/ these Blackjacks?

@sdeal5 - Check this out

I do. I dropped my charge down quite a bit though, I was on the edge of pressure and I found a node that I like alot more. I'll do an edit once I have my velocity and verify at distances.

I do really like these bullets. The ONLY downside to this cartridge/bullets, is recoil. The difference between my BR-AI in my PRS rig vs this cartridge is significant. Even with a larger muzzle brake, I sometimes struggle spotting impacts 300 yards and in. But, they sure do fly nice.

For those interested, I've ended up changing my load quite a bit. My last PRS match last month I was really struggling with pressure issue's. It went so far that I was even putting my loaded magazines in coolers before I'd shoot to limit my stiff bolt lift :eek::eek: (definitely ruined some brass, which sucks.)

After visiting with a good friend, I decided to completely rework my load over. In my initial load development I spent a lot of time trying to get it to shoot at around .020" jump. I was encouraged to try jumping it between .060" and .100" and really drop my load back.

The attached photo's are some new loads I've settled on. 37.5 grains of powder, seated 2.800" which is .060" jump. Velocity was right at 2800, which is honestly a little slower than I was hoping for, but as good as it shoots I'm not going to complain. I've never been one to care about velocity, I am more concerned with how it performs on paper and steel at distance. For those interested, I did run it over the chrono, and 37.5 grains of H4350 gave me 2795 average over a 5 shot group, and a very nice ES of 6. I'll shoot it again in the morning at distance to verify my velocity and drops, and then hopefully smack a couple speed goats with it over the next couple of weeks.

So is the mid 2900 node realistic if you want good brass life? I’ve considered this for F Class w a long barrel.

That's a good question. Originally, I thought yes no problem. But, like I said my last PRS match it was 90+ Degrees, and I had all kinds of pressure issue's. I think I was on the verge of pressure before, and just didn't realize it.

Another thing to consider is with this being a PRS rig, I don't want to jam bullets. Shooting F Class that's a non issue, so you might be able to jam them .020" or more and get a little more velocity and powder charge without the pressure I'm seeing.

Carson - I don't want to make assumptions or be a know it all, but I think you may have said "jam" when you mean "jump"...

RL 16 is a good powder in that case too but try going slower with some H4831 . Might not pressure up as easy ??

been working on a 250 savage since last year. got slowed down with a bad hip so i didnt get as far as i wanted' am waiting for my 1:8 twist barrel but continue to shoot it with a 1:10 twist barrel.
40grs of reloader 17 under Berger 110gr match/hunter chronode 3068 FPS but the bullets didnt like the 1:10 twist barrel. sierra 100gr MK's over 36.5grs varget runs 3050 avg FPS and shoots 1/2 MOA all day long and easy recoil.
best load i run in my savage 1920 is 42grs of varget under a hornady 75gr VMAX gives 3478 FPS and thats with a 22" barrel!!!! used sierra 90gr GM BTHP to take a whitetail at 137yds they had 36.5grs varget at 3050 FPS.
